Valkyre Xephira

Lady of the Nine Hells
NPC

Valkyre Xephira is the current Archdevil of the Eighth Layer of The Nine Hells, Cania. It is thought that Lady Valkyre was created some time shortly after the Beginning, though exactly when and by who is disputed.

Some legends state that Valkyre existed as one of the first mortal beings created on The Material Plane, and often credit her as the creator of Unknown, necromancy, and murder. Locations in Arimore in The Five Realms are thought to perhaps be linked to her mortal life, if indeed she had one, such as Our Lady's Rest and The Bleeding Woods. It is claimed that in life she lived within The Bleeding Woods and that her corruption spread to the surroundings, still persisting today. Whilst Our Lady's Rest is sometimes considered to be Lady Valkyre's final resting place, with some legends claiming that she killed herself here, others that she was killed there, and some specifically claim that Lord of the Nine Hells killed her himself.

Lady Valkyre's history with and relationship with the Lord of the Nine Hells is disputed. It is said that the first contract to ever be made by the Lord of the Nine Hells was made with her, though why she made it and what for is unknown. Some accounts of her as an Archdevil state that she is his wife, whilst others state that she is his slave, a claim supported by witness accounts describing a collar around her neck at all times. Some claim the collar is less literal and is merely a symbol of her willing vow to share her ill-gotten power with Lord of the Nine Hells and to never wield it against him. Regardless, it is generally understood that she is the mother of his children: Crucius Xephira, Au'Ra Xephira, Darke Xephira, Elvira Xephira, Mortius Xephira, and Elistra Xephira.

Lady Valkyre's appearance has been generally described as one of corrupted beauty, with striking features, deathly pale skin, flowing black hair, and blood red eyes. Tieflings of her bloodline (Tiefling (Valkyre)) often share some or all of these features. Some accounts additionally describe intricate sigils carved into her pale skin, glowing black and crackling with power in the moments before being activated, though this too is disputed.

As an Archdevil, Valkyre is said to favour contracts with those who seek power and arcane knowledge for its own sake, as well as those who have a tendency for self-corruption but have not quite made it to damnation.

Valkyre may be chosen as a Warlock patron as a Fiend. The price for such patronage is invariably one's soul and perhaps more besides.
