Peas Recap
2020-08-10

Ancine 26th, 951

  • The Peas began to deal with the fallout of their conflict with the Dracohest in Shiesia
    • Kisya began grieving over the body of the fallen Kosmarir, and Journey looked on with conflicted emotions
      • Kisya pleaded with Phaelnah to revive her father, which Journey attempted to argue against
      • Phaelnah eventually used Raise Dead to revive Kosmarir, who became very conflicted about the methodology
    • The party bound Ark and Valdos, putting them in the holding cells for the time being
    • Wander and Tyerjon investigated the corpses of the Dracohest, not finding much other than simple weapons
      • Wander discovered a grey and dark black crystal on the crystallized corpse of Craxen, which he gave to Journey
      • Journey offered the crystals to Malae, who greedily accepted them
    • Seamus offended everyone with the smell of the minced body of Gaval'sar Gasvado, which he was still carrying around in a bag
    • The party spoke with Kisya regarding the goings-on in the village, learning that Journey's mother Unknown was outside the caves in the surface village
    • Kisya explained that both she and Ark were forced to create pacts with Xac'huranac, and the resulting flood of forbidden knowledge twisted Ark's mind
    • The party also learned that the abomination they destroyed, Yasgithiath, had a special power to align the unruly members of the village with the Dracohest's goals
    • Intermittent yells and arguing could faintly be heard emanating from the pit
  • The party decided to take a break, gaining the benefits of a short rest
    • Valdos awoke during the rest, always staring directly in Journey's direction, regardless of any obstacles in the way
    • Journey spoke with Malae, who said that she was feeling a bit better after absorbing the two new crystals, teaching Journey Lustrous Conflagration and informing her that Wander and Tyerjon were placed under a curse that modified their memories to have them worship Xac'huranac
  • The group decided to head down into the pit, believing their quarry to lie at its base
    • Deciding that the quickest way down was to jump, the group leapt into the hole, with Journey using the Cape of Billowing to slow everyone's fall except for Leadbelly's, who hit the ground at terminal velocity undamaged because of his Bounding Boots
    • Leadbelly briefly caught the attention of a hulking beast of shadow that was clawing at a hunk of ice in the ground
    • As the rest of the party floated down, the elven warlock Tirinid attempted to coerce the shadow beast into fighting them, but he was intent on clawing through the ice, paying no one any mind
    • Wander managed to convince Tirinid that they had Xac'huranac's best interests in mind, and he allowed them to snoop around the pit, with a VERY watchful eye
      • Despite this, Wander managed to evade his sight and sneak around him
    • As Tyerjon entered the center of the pit, the shadow beast sniffed the air, and approached Tyerjon
      • All the while, Wander began sneaking up to assassinate Tirinid
    • The beast asked Tyerjon who he was, and what he was doing
    • Referring to Tyerjon as his brother in blood, he decided to test the dragonborn's strength and attacked him, just as Wander only just botched his assassination on Tirinid
  • The party engaged the shadow beast as Wander finished off the elven warlock
    • The beast focused its attacks on Tyerjon as the party hammered it with their remaining strength
    • The beast wove in and out of the shadows, becoming difficult to strike
    • He released a wave of fear that sent Leadbelly and Seamus running, with Seamus forcing his way under a set of bedsheets that Leadbelly had already claimed
    • Tyerjon and the beast kept slashing into each other as Phaelnah supported with her Spirit Guardian and Journey attacked with Ray of Frost
    • The beast threw Phaelnah across the room, warning her not to interfere
    • After offering the soul of Tirinid to Kalar for his guidance, Wander rushed over and sank his dagger into the beast, dispersing the shadows and releasing the fear on Seamus and Leadbelly
    • After the shadows thinned, a silver dragonborn looking remarkably similar to Tyerjon stood in front of the party
    • The dragonborn approached Tyerjon, wishing to do single combat with him
      • As he walked away from Wander, the rogue took an attack against him, angering him greatly
      • Addressing Tyerjon, he told him to witness the power of the dragon god as he cast Power Word Pain on Wander
    • The group continued to attack as the dragonborn cast Eyebite on Seamus after he attempted to yield but the fighter kept hitting him
    • Wander, still wracked by pain, attacked the dragonborn, nearly dropping him if not for a shield of shadow that protected his wound
  • Finally disengaging hostilities, the group spoke with the dragonborn, who introduced himself as Vandalieth
    • Vandal reasoned that he needed to test Tyerjon's strength, as it didn't matter what his blood smelled like. If he wasn't strong, they weren't brothers.
    • Vandal told Tyerjon that he had brothers and sisters living far to the west, past the Shattered Sea, 9 including himself
    • Tyerjon, still under the influence of the curse from Yasgithiath, overlooked many of Vandal's problematic statements regarding the Dracohest and his upbringing
    • Vandal relayed that their clutch had been stolen from a city far to the east to be delivered to the Dracohest
    • Tyerjon told Vandal about Righty and Lefty, and Vandal was able to instantly communicate this to his other siblings
    • Vandal attempted to continue digging, but Journey blocked his attempts until Tyerjon managed to convince her to stand aside, reasoning the group would need to get down there eventually
  • Wander spoke to Kalar after offering Tirinid's soul to him, which the god's avatar took
    • Kalar imparted some wisdom to the party, indicating that they would need to travel down near Ferazir to complete their mission, but doing so carried some significant risks
    • The god mentioned that Ferazir was greedy, selfish, quick to anger, and vain. He urged the party to take care to not wake the dragon if they could.
  • The party decided to wait until the next day to tackle Ferazir, taking a long rest at the bottom of the pit as Vandalieth slashed away at the ice
    • Phaelnah used the time to contact  INCOMPLETE

Ancine 27th, 951

  • Rested, the group confronted Vandalieth, convincing him that if he waited for them to finished their business, they could open a hole for him to enter the dragon's domain
  • Journey used her magic to open an entrance through the thick ice and the party jumped down, slowed by Feather Fall
    • The chamber inside the ice was ridiculously large, containing a giant glacier sitting in a massive pile of treasure
    • The air was frigid and biting, and began to cause the group unbearable pain
    • Consulting the crystal, the group discerned that they would not be able to last at the rate it was calibrating at, and attempted to move closer to the source, near the glacier
    • The group attempted to move silently, but the glacier stirred and unfurled itself, the cacophonic cracking of the ice drowning out all other noise in the chamber
    • The massive Ferazir turned to address the party, his breath causing frost to build on their skin
    • With the crystal calibrating faster due to the proximity, Journey attempted to distract Ferazir by appealing to his vanity and greed, offering him gifts and plying him with flattery
    • Ferazir put on a display of majesty, sending out waves of sheer cold that felt as if it were burning
    • The dragon recalled eras past where he was revered by many as a gods, belittling Kalar and other "progenitor" gods
    • As the crystal finished gathering the resonance, Ferazir noticed the crystal on Journey's staff, becoming enraged at its presence
    • A divine force whisked the party away as Ferazir released a blast of flaming ice INCOMPLETE
  • The party appeared in the center of the village cave, witnessing the icy fire fly up out of the pit, creating a solid pillar of ice similar to the carapace Journey dug through
    • Tyerjon wondered about Vandal's fate
    • The group ran out of the cave as Ferazir's tantrum began to cause rocks to fall and the mountain to avalanche
  • In the outside village, Journey discovered her mother Unknown had taken on a leadership role, immediately putting the Peas to work in assisting the villagers in an evacuation
    • The party spent the rest of the day running through the biting cold before Afuphis settled on a place to set up a new temporary camp
  • Journey spent time catching up with her mother, who was delighted to see her, and discussing future plans  INCOMPLETE
  • Phaelnah cast Remove Curse on Wander and Tyerjon, clearing their minds from the influence of Yasgithiath
  • Seamus ducked into the Roomy Chest and visited Razodon, convincing him to send his bag of minced, rotten meat to the Sanarian Tax Agency labeled as "Tax Returns"
    • Razodon informed Seamus that he would owe him a favor for this

Ancine 28th

  • The party decided to spend the day with the Shiesians, helping them set up camp, hunting, and assisting with other matters
    • Tyerjon and Seamus went hunting, declining to pursue an elk but eventually finding a group of rabbits, which they cooked into a stew
    • Leadbelly attempted to educate some of they Shiesians on forging techniques, but many were fearful of fire heated to sure a temperature
    • Phaelnah concocted a ritual for severing Ark's connection to Xac'huranac
    • Journey and Wander visited Madrioc, purchasing materials for Phaelnah
    • Seamus showed his meaty bag to a group of children
  • Phaelnah conducted her ritual on Ark, removing Xac'huranac's connection

Ancine 29th - Ancine 30th, 951

  • The party decided to return to Slaghead Island through the use of the ley trees, deciding to visit Dulhaddras to accomplish this task
  • The party said their goodbyes to be people of Shiesia, and Afuphis gave the Rimebloom Mantle to Journey as a farewell gift, wishing for her safety
  • Seamus received a message in his mind, "Message received".
  • Seamus also got a message from Selathwin, stating that tensions were ramping up, urging the party to bring backup if they could

Olkorinik 1st, 951

  • The party observed a quadruple moon as Elevara, Unavara, Fectovara, and Batra rose into the sky, and everyone received a foreboding feeling
  • In the early evening, the light of the moons and stars were suddenly blotted out by a cascade of shadow that crept across the sky
    • The moons attempted to shine through, but their light was snuffed out as the darkness prevailed, turning the world pitch black
  • Lighting their torches, the group hurriedly continued their march towards the ley tree, observing the chaos that ensued from the now darkened landscape
  • Phaelnah distanced herself somewhat from the group, returning to Madrioc to plant some seeds and pray to her goddess in honor of Pallhaud

Olkorinik 2nd, 951

  • The group finally arrived at Dulhaddras, surveying the giant tree glowing softly in the darkness from a distance
    • The tree was located at the end of a narrow mountain climb, the only path lit brightly by a number of torches
    • The group was spotted by a giant that screamed out warnings in a foreign language
    • Wander casted Comprehend Languages and attempted to reason with the giant, but to no avail
    • Postulating that the giant might be very helpful in a fight against the Nightseeker, the group decided to wait a day so that Phaelnah could prepare the spells Tongues and Geas in the hopes of recruiting him
  • The group decided to spend some time preparing, and checked in on some of their allies to see if they could help with the Nightseeker
    • Phaelnah contacted a number of people with Sending
      • Arghan Highmaker Athuniano - Answered yes to a summons, but Phaelnah forgot to mention where he was to meet the group
      • Karcius and Valx - Maybe. Valx mentioned that Karcius was getting fed up with dragon slaying, so he would try to steer him in that direction.
      • Whisper and the Broken Band - Yes, under the promise of payment
      • Ulian Bowband - Ulian recognized the threat, and told the party he would try his best to meet up with them
      • Vortek - Vortek told Phaelnah to free him from a cage
      • Giz - Probably not. Giz mentioned he'd like to help, but he had no way of making it there
      • Krel'la Tavesh - Probably not. Krill/Krel'la asked why the group never called him to do anything fun instead of dangerous
      • Inglis Alexandar - Trapped in the Nightblight, Inglis mentioned he met a facsimile of Phaelnah, and "ate tea" with her
    • Leadbelly visited Dengis Barrelhole, attempting to recruit some forces from the Mercenaries Guild
      • Dengis said that many of the guild members were still recovering from their efforts against Zahast, but promised he'd muster up what he could
    • Journey visited Renbedar Uleshan, who promised to send what help he could spare, motivated by his rivalry with Selathwin
    • Tyerjon spoke with Razodon, who placed himself at the group's disposal
      • Tyerjon also dropped by Vinn's Wares, purchasing a number of straps that he put up around the Roomy Chest so that people could secure themselves in the interior without being bounced around.
  • At night, the group had a Heroes' Feast created by Phaelnah
    • Seamus and Leadbelly both spit up a pile of green goo, feeling better after being cured of a disease they didn't know they had
    • The group became immune to poison and were filled with bravery
    • The feast supplied the group with a strength of mind, giving them advantage on Wisdom saves for 24 hours

Olkorinik 3rd, 951

  • Though still pitch dark out, Wander was able to wake the group up in the morning
  • The party argued on what to do for a while, but eventually all but Journey and Phaelnah entered the chest as the two approached Dulhaddras
    • Journey turned the two invisible as they approached the giant, avoiding snowy patches on the ground on the way
    • Phaelnah cast Tongues and then Geas on the giant, but he managed to resist the spell, flying into a rage as Journey cast Dimension Door to the other side of the tree
    • As Phaelnah held Dragastir up to Dulhaddras, Journey spotted a giant centipede-like creature with a spine of fire skittering around the side of the cliff as the giant searched for them
    • Dragastir immediately gained the ire of Dulhaddras, and the two resorted to calling each other names
    • The giant came around the tree and prepared an attack just as Phaelnah touched the ley tree herself and begged it to transport her to Abrax; its reminisced about Abrax for a time before finally absorbing the elf and tiefling just as the giant swung his hammer down where they stood
  • Phaelnah and Journey were reduced to pure energy as they traveled through the ley line, feeling the life forces of creatures above them, moving at a blinding speed
  • The two popped out of another tree that spoke to them as they arrived, addressing them as the ones that "snapped my twig".
