You return to the Temple to Sigmar early in the morning. Ravenclaw Darkwood and Rutger Weiss go to the library and Corrobreth and Thrumir Bhakdram explore the crypts further and find the way to the mausoleum and its exit to the graveyard. The ornate sarcophagi in the mausoleum have also been opened and emptied and in the graveyard, many of the graves have been dug up.

On their way back through the crypt a voice the niche with the tunnels says, "Oh, you’re back again, are you? Well, there’s nothing more here, we told you the last time.” Five figures shuffle out of the gloom, they are dressed in rags and are .dirty and disheveled. The men are shifty, but in conversation with them you learn that Lady Margritte von Wittgenstein sends guards down here to collect bodies and food. They are keen to leave and head back down the passage. whilst Thrumir and Corrobreth return upstairs.

Ravenclaw has learned that:

-  Following the 'Black Rain' the few crops that grew were twisted and discoloured, even the grass and the trees became warped and sickly. The animals and people also began to develop mutations. There are reports of two-headed cattle, green sheep, and all manner of diseases among the peasants.

Whilst it was good having your suspicions confirmed you are none the wiser about how to get into the Castle Wittgenstein. Rutger reckons maybe some children might know of a secret way, so you decide to find some to ask. As you exit the temple, you see a two-headed sheep being chased through the village by a group of eight beggars, hobbling on crutches and propelling themselves in varieties of wheeled carts and trolleys. The sheep easily outdistances the beggars and leaps into the woods.

As you walk through the village, you notice you are being observed from a distance by a comparatively smartly dressed man. He is overweight and his clothing looks a bit on the small side for him.
s you get closer he take a pinch of snuff and you notice his topcoat is covered in snuff. His face also appears to be very pale.

“Greetings, visitors! “ He says amiably, “I am Dr Roussseaux the physician here in Wittgendorf. I apologise for not introducing myself sooner, however I happen to be very busy just now alleviating the suffering of these poor creatures. Please call on me at my home later today if you wish. Anybody will be able to give you directions!” And with that he turns and walks away.

You find this very unusual as most people in the village are not so well kept.

Waling back from the village, you are approached by a young woman carrying a baby wrapped in a blanket. She is visibly upset. “Please” she cries “help my baby daughter, she’s dying!”

“I took her to the doctor but he just prescribed her his medicine which has only made her worse! She won’t eat and her colour is terrible!”

“Oh won’t you help me! My husband was carried off to the castle yesterday” she wails “Please help my baby. as she holds the child towards Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw takes the bundle and holds it out to Corrobreth who pulls the blanket back. He is shocked to see 8 hairy legs sprouting from the baby's body which is covered in green fur and reels back.

You ask the mother some more questions about the doctor's medicine and she goes to fetch the bottle she got from the doctor. It is a blue bottle, similar to the one you have seen the beggars carrying.

At that point, with a group of beggars starting to congregate, you decide to go visit the doctor early.

The doctor's house is probably the only one in the village that is well kept and not showing signs of decay. Thrumir and Corrobreth go to the front door and Ravenclaw and Rutger go into the back yard. In the yard they are met by an odd, babbling man who keeps saying '"bottle' and holding out his hand. Eventually they work out he is trying to sell them one of the blue bottles. Ravenclaw threatens the man back into the shed in the yard, which contains an old still and numerous empty and full blue bottles.

At the front, Corrobreth decides to try some of the liquid in the bottle to determine if it is any kind of magic or potion. He finds that it is strongly alcoholic with a flavour of juniper berries. Even though he only takes a small amount it gives him stomach cramps which last for 5 minutes. Thrumir knocks on the door which is opened by a diminutive housekeeper. When you say you are her to see the doctor, she lets you into his surgery, telling you he is busy and will join you in a while. You wait a long time and eventually decide to start exploring the house. The housekeeper tries to interfere, but you chase her off. You explore all the rooms but find nothing useful and eventually go back to waiting in the surgery.

After a long while, you hear the back door open and then the door to the surgery opens. It is the doctor and he welcomes you warmly. You present him with your concerns about the 'medicine' he is giving the beggars and the villagers. He tells you that the problems stem from the long time the village has been isolated and the inbreeding that has happened. His medicine, he claims, cannot treat these, but alleviates the suffering of his patients and gives them peace. When you protest, he tells you that as a graduate of the finest medical university in Quenelles, he knows what is best for his patients.

You ask him about how to get into the castle, but he tells you instead you should join him for dinner with the Lady Margritte tomorrow. You refuse the offer as well but he is still gracious after you also refuse as a subsequent offer to join him for some fine brandy he brought all the way from Bretonnia 10 years ago.

After evaluating you options, and another chat with the depressed barman, you decide then to accept the offer of dinner and Corrobreth returns to the doctors house to tell him.

You leave the house and take a walk up to the castle where the guards very firmly tell you to get lost, sending a couple of crossbow bolts in your direction as you retreat.

With no other plans you head back to the boat. You find a large number of the castle guards by the wharf, armed with crossbows. Their leader, a large man dressed in black mail, tells you that your boat has been impounded for not paying the toll for the use of the splendid wharf provided by the rulers of this barony. After deciding there is no way you could win this fight, you grab what you can carry off the boat, as well as Fleck and head back to the village, as the guards laugh at you and sail your boat away.

As you trudge back to the village feeling hard done by, a young woman approaches and introduces herself as Hilda Eysenck. She quickly tells you that there are others you should meet and that for tonight, you should stay at the inn and she would come see you tomorrow.

With no better place to go, you head to the inn and take up lodgings and a meal
