Welcome to the Vigilants. You are one of the thousands of people living in the imperial capital of Sentra, the jewel of the Empire

For some of you, this is home—a comfortable and familiar place you've known your entire life.  For others, the city may only be a brief stop, perhaps one of many in your travels.  But regardless of how you came here, you share the same streets.

Depending on who you are—and where you live—Sentra can be a beautiful city of wonder and splendor. Yet that perfect city is only what many people see on the surface.  There are those that understand there is more to the city, that there are flaws in it that run deeper than what most will see.  There are those that know what lies beneath.

The Story

Niman was a student studying theoretical thaumaturgy at Pallida University. Originally from Seidland, he was granted a scholarship granted by one of the foundations of House Fournius. He has no family in the city.

He died from an acute case of Arcstone poisoning, which should not have been possible given his circumstances. An autopsy revealed that his internal anatomy was mirrored.

Renatus is home to the School of Arcane Theory and Application at Pallida University.

Faculty offices, study rooms, and collaboration spaces are on the third floor. The second and first floor are classrooms, with one larger auditorium-style lecture hall on the first floor. The basement houses the workshops and laboratories. There is a service/freight levitator connecting the floors, as well as a staircase near the center of the building.

The Singers were mentioned by Mordenkai, who called himself a former Listener of theirs. He says that they would speak to him, a chorus of voices, and tell him what to do. They extended his lifespan, and may have given him other supernatural powers as well. He does not remember the things that he was asked to do, but seemed to grow fearful.

The latest Listener is unknown, but Mordenkai believed that they are currently in the city of Sentra. Cephius er'Ceasian may have been that Listener.

The Singers match dark tales of elvish bogeymen called ustasi duyarti (which roughly translates to "puppet master"). They sang to their victims to force them to do things against their will.

Random Spotlights

In hindsight, allowing an architect suspected of madness was probably not a sound decision.  But the money and influence of Darin ir'Taran likely contributed to such an arrangement.  Nevertheless, Darin's attempt to "showcase the majestic wonder of Sentran art and architecture throughout the ages" is eye catching.  Although most buildings do show characteristic stylings of historical Sentran architecture, there are notable influences of Caithan, Gnomish, and ancient Elvish styles.  Somehow, even examples of Dwarven architecture have been pointed out by visiting dwarven dignitaries.  The more bizarre structures are supposedly based on the divine homes of the gods, leading some credence to the idea that Darin may have been divinely inspired.

Darin's Folly has become a bit of a tourist location as visitors (and locals) gawk at the architecture.  Scattered throughout are inexpensive inns, pubs, restaurants, and taverns.  There is a great deal of gambling, both out in the open in officially licensed gambling houses and behind closed doors in more seedy locations.

Places of Interest

Dark Horse Den is a gambling house controlled by the Cornys Family through several intermediaries.  It is a fully legal and licensed establishment... or at least what goes on out in the open is.

The Temple of Folly is devoted to Lakasis and a popular spot for gamblers, although by the time they need to make an offering they are already out of money.  The structure is based on Darin's own interpretation of the holy house of Lakasis.

The Welcome Chill is run by a pair of gnome sisters, Enlil and Lilen, who use their minor magic gifts to keep drinks cold for their patrons.  Unfortunately, the building follows old gnomish architectural styles, and the ceiling is a bit low.  Anyone over six feet will need to stoop or duck, but the tavern is popular with neighborhood gnomes, dwarves, and nezumi.

Alcor idolized (and perhaps still does) his hero Keo after meeting him in Baron's City years ago. He traveled looking for Keo, but when he found him in Rattlestone, Keo did not live up to Alcor's expectations. Still, he asked to be trained as a warrior like Keo. He has picked up some skill, but is definitely not fully trained.

Alcor seeks revenge against the Hammerfall in Sentra. He has some knowledge of their inner workings, and is using it to help Tor'in. He carries an elven short sword named Ak'halas.

An exclusive society for the richest and most influential people of the Empire. Merchants, priests, military officers, and other notables gather for grand galas—the Fournius Gala is one such example.  Many powerful people openly wear the sign of membership: eight rings, one on each finger, made out of a metal that signifies their rank within the organization. Outside of their social gatherings, members often contribute to philanthropic causes.
