The party returns to Redlarch. They check in with the Constable. Braelon has not located his father and his stuff is packed to go with the party. The party are able to convince the boy that he needs to stay in town and keep an eye out for the cultists as the Constable has his hands full. The group head north to enter the Sumber Pass without trying to locate Monty.

While traveling, they come across a giant carrying a sack. They shadow the giant for a time and when it stops to set up camp, Gil uses magic to cut open the sack. Several things tumble out including Monty. They quickly head back to where they left their wagon. Monty tells the group that he was tracking the elder Hatherhand but was grabbed by the giant.

The next day the party come to a fork in the road. They are able to see there is a tower to the south. Deciding to head that direction in the morning, the party settle down to rest. That night it rains. Idril checks what the weather should be and discovers that the rain is unnatural. Due to the rain, most of the group sleeps under the wagon with Logan using his bed roll to make a lean to against the side of the wagon.  During Logan’s watch, the earth rumbles. He wakes up Idril. The party is then ambushed by a trio of Ankhegs. The party is able to dispatch the trio without losing the horses or the wagons.

In the morning, the party heads south along the road. They discover that the river is up due to the recent rains. They continue off the road into the hills to head towards the tower. They get briefly lost but are able to find a good place to settle down for the night. During the night, it storms. Idril again is able to determine that the storm is unnatural. She see off in the distance, on a ridge overlooking where the party is camping a figure silhouetted by lighting. She wakes up Gil but the figure disappears. Gil tells her to wake him up if the figure comes back. It does and Idril screams, waking up the whole party.

The armored suit seems extremely interested in Idril. Logan imposes himself between the two. Gil uses magic to poke it but nothing happens. Diana goes up to iit to try to remove its helm but it flung to the side. The party discovers that it will follow simple commands from Idril. Logan moves to suit and pokes it with a sword. The suit doesn’t like that and attacks Logan. The party flights it until eventually the suit flies off.

The next day the party arrive at the tower. Ringing the bell, they are welcomed into Feathergale Spire. They are shown around by a woman from Waterdeep named Savras Belabranta. Diana is extremely interested in the gryphons and attempts to get the party to help her plan to take either a grown gryphon or an egg. She tells Savras she is interested in joining the Feathergale Knights.

After a short time they are taken to meet the Commander, Thurl Merroska. He tells Diana some of what she can expect in training, including that she will need to purchase or acquire her own mount to formally join the group. Diana can do some training prior to that but there are many restrictions, which Diana bulks at. Logan speaks with Commander Merroska about the troubles in the valley. He tells them about increased goblin and ogre activity in the hills along with the strange weather. He does not believe them when Diana tells them about the strange flying attackers even though they show him the backpack. He does tell them about a group of Druids about a day's travel away which piques Idril’s interest. He offers to allow Diana to stay for a week to see if she wants to become an initiate. Diana asks to think about it. Logan privately warns the Commander more forcefully about the dangers in the area and about a possible attack on the tower.

That night, Diana attempts to get more information about the hatching and care of young griffins from Savras. She does get some information. She also sends Monty out to see if he can look into any possible eggs for the group to steal. Idril wants to go check out the Druids. Logan goes to look for a place to train and finds a spot where he can mediate. He prepares to contact Conah, his Deva Angelic Guide.
