This powerful clan numbers about 1,300 people, though families suffered in the decade-long dispute between Kangharl and Leika Black Spear. They grow grain and apples in the Swan valley, and herd cattle and sheep in Stael’s Hills. They are sometimes called the “Barley clan” and they make Crazy Black Widebrew, a ritual intoxicant out of barley, dark wine, and herbs.
The Taral War was fought by the Narri and Enhyli against the Hiording and Varmandi clans to avenge the destruction of the Lonisi clan at Taral. Intervention by King Robasart of the Colymar tribe brought peace and the foundation of the new Taraling clan in the (reduced) territory of the old Lonisi clan. The clan wyter resides in a burial mound outside of Runegate, which marks where the Lonisi clan was destroyed. The chief Storm Voice is the clan chieftain and speaks with the wyter.
The last three tribal rulers have come from this clan. They have long had close links of marriage and cult with the Hiording, Narri, Lonisi, and Varmandi clans; in the last generation many of their leaders have been tied through marriage with the Ernaldori clan. Queen Leika comes from this clan; however, Verinos the Old is the clan chieftain (since 1613).
