Mokoi is Bunjil's youngest child with Gnowee, whom Wahn snatched from the breast of his mother and raised as his own. His uncle taught him many secrets of the world, and Mokoi's mind was so great that he learned them with ease. As an older child he was once more kidnapped, this time by Balayang, who sought to teach him the art of darkness and have a powerful child of his own.

It was Mokoi who, upon studying and experimenting with the essence of darkness and light, discovered the source of all evil and how to employ it for dark magic. Balayang stole these secrets and taught them to his followers in Earth, thus granting them enormous power. Mokoi felt betrayed and descended upon the land, swearing to hunt down any human who employs dark magic using his supernatural powers and strength. Eventually his sister Eingana learned of this and asked him to take the souls of the sick, cursed, destined and dying as an act of mercy, thus becoming a deity of death. Oceanyka's general population largely associates Mokoi with death, granting him his name (lit. "Evil Spirit).

With the appereance of Culhun in the Oceanykan medieval era, it is believed by Dreamtime followers that Mokoi's unnatural dark magic is connected to the Invader and that the two are destined to fight if Culhun ever makes his divine form manifest in Earth.

Mokoi is the patron of psychics, Secret Society Trackers and other inquisitor-like figures, but also important for priests and shamans, whom he is believed to guide away from the path of dark magic.
