“If there is one thing I’ve learned in my life…” (Followed by trailed off silence – every time!)

In life, Ogden the Hardrider was a Sergeant of a Purple Dragon patrol, and accordingly wore chain mail with the Cormyrean insignia emblazoned on his surcoat. Each was armed with a light horse lance, long sword, mace and dagger with expertly trained horses. As a Night Rider, his patrol's shields bounce unused at their saddles, the weapons discarded in favor of their Scythes of Wounding and their steeds joined them in immortality as Gaunts. These mounted undead favor night strikes, staying spread out to incite indecision in defensive maneuvers and prevent the enemy from knowing where the strikes are coming from. Each patrol has two leaders that are supported by six riding fast behind them. A single rider follows slowly to cut down runners and make sure none escape. Four more Night Riders remain further back in reserve.

Ogden is an expert tactician, committing his four man reserve force to spoil any spellcasting, devastating casters with silent and deadly efficiency. He has taught the Night Riders to raid and harry, repeatedly turning their mounts to ride past enemies with devastating scythe strikes, rather than standing toe to toe. He waits to ambush in ideal terrain that provides darkness, obscurement and cover to further make the enemy battle as a confused, disorganized fray.

History

Many things could be said of Ogden the Hardrider, at the very least that he was captivating and focused. Of course he was also dutiful, sensitive and relaxed. His captivating nature though, this is what he was most well-liked for with his men. People often counted on this and his reliability whenever they needed help. Nobody's perfect of course and Ogden has a fair share of lesser days too. His pedantic nature didn't make for the greatest company on personal levels. Fortunately his good nature helped prevent most of those grievances.

The biggest two things his family knew were that he was adventurous and a responsive father. He was also respectful, contemplative and empathetic, which continues to influence how he is a Night Rider. Upon Myrkul's return he has returned and resumed guardianship over his descendants. He visits his wife's grave every year and puts the deepest blood red, long stemmed roses on her headstone, on the anniversary of their marriage. A day that he felt was the best day of his life, and continues to be his most cherished memory in unlife, as he continues his eternal service to the Lord of the Dead. He quietly departs after he devotes a prayer that Myrkul continue to shelter her soul in death. Which is the only time that Ogden the Hardrider prays.

Legends (Rumors, Myths, Tall Tales)

It is rumored that Ogden the Hardrider was there during the Time of Troubles in Waterdeep at Blackstaff Tower when Myrkul died, possibly being imbued with the essence of the Dead God when Myrkul's avatar's body exploded in a spray of death.
