Afzal Jabbar

This character is dead.
Chief of the Proudpaw Tribe
NPC

The Chieftain of the Proudpaw Tribe tribe in the north-eastern The Beastfolk Heartlands, Afzal is a decorated warrior, though his strongest years have long since passed him by.

In his youth, he journeyed across much of the Heartlands, and even strayed further afield, with his father's blessing. In a Dwarf ruin he discovered the Shimmersword which he would wield to his death. For many heirs, this would not have been permitted, but two older brothers left Afzal with little claim to the role of Chief. However, with the tragic passing of his older brothers and father in a suspected Greenskin ambush, Afzal came to the position young and ill-prepared at only 18 years of age. Nevertheless, he was a fierce fighter and canny leader, and knew when to hold his corner, and when to trust one of his more seasoned advisors, including Fatiyah Jabbar who was betrothed to his brother but came to marry Afzal. Fatiyah and Afzal are close, but their relationship is more akin to that of siblings that husband and wife, and they only have a single child - Aaliyah Jabbar. The circumstances of his family have left him wary and hateful of the Greenskins of the Great Desert, not far to the north.

A good head and good advice led his once minor tribe to prosperity and glory in the north, but there was always one thing that he wanted more than anything else- a son and heir of his own. Afzal has married nine times, of whom three remain, and has had seventeen daughters, some of whom are older than his youngest wives, but had no success until recently. With the assistance of the Leannan priestess Moirin Mhic Macdha, his youngest wife Muneeb Jabbar conceived and gave birth to a boy, named Faiz Jabbar for Afzal's father, in the Chieftain's 57th year, though died during the birth. Though mourning his wife, Afzal is ecstatic over finally having a son of his own, and the old grumpy lion dotes on the boy. His wariness and paranoia of the Greenskins has been ramped up to new levels however, and has been engaged in several bloody skirmishes with them of late, mainly the Tribe Threefinger, though he is not prone to cruelty by any means and has been known to pardon captives brought before him.

Afzal was advised by his Chancellor, Seth al-Rawaz, the priestess Moirin Mhic Macdha, and his old friend Erastos Ironhoof, and the group of them kicked off the events of A Gathering Storm, asking the party to investigate the disappearance of a group of scouts, and to collect information on Greenskin movements.

As the party investigated the Desert, they eventually ambushed a Greenskin scouting force, taking hostage a weak Hobgoblin named Wretch "Shadowborn". Wretch revealed that instead of in a duel, Afzal had murdered the previous Chief of Tribe Threefinger (and Wretch's father), Aazhag while he was praying. Theparty journeyed to the Threefinger camp, and met the new Chief of the tribe, Zibrust as well as his advisors Coldtooth and the Axemother. Through some peyote and magic fuelled visions, they came to the conclusion that Wretch's story is correct, but that there seemed to be something off about the Afzal they see.

Returning to Redpride, the party confronted Afzal and come to the realisation that he was being mind controlled by Moirin Mhic Macdha, who they arrest. After her arrest, she revealed to Xil that she was a member of the Wood Elf Scouts and she was trying to avert the Shadowborn Prophecy as Zibrust was destined to burn large parts of the Imperial Troll Empire to the ground. Though she attempted to escape with the aid of Xil, she was executed by Afzal, though Xil used illusion magic to fake a resurrection.

Through some delicate negotiations between Redpride and Threefinger, a new duel was announced between Afzal and Zibrust at Stubborn Rock, to settle things and end the bad blood between the tribes.  Zibrust narrowly won the duel, and Afzal's last words are "Muneeb". Afzal requested before the duel that Erastos tell his son the tales of their youth, and he makes the final request of Zibrust that the Shimmersword go to Faiz.
