As his mother was on her Great Journey, she abandoned Lorenzo at Crinia. This act seems harsh at first but turned out to be a lucky start for Lorenzo's life, as many events would turn out to be lucky.
The city of Crinia offers education to all of its children born inside its walls. For this reason, mothers who are passing are kept from entering the city. Fortunately for Lorenzo, Firbolg anatomy is hard for most humans, and his mother was allowed inside.
After being raised in residence of the local royal family he was put to work as a magistrato, essentially a government inspector for trade. On his days off he felt a strong pull into the neighboring forests and swamps. Appreciating the calm and the unkempt wilderness around him.
As his career developed he found himself disagreeing with some of Crinia's policies, especially the handling of foreigners.
When an unmarked riverboat requested to pass unchecked, Lorenzo followed procedure, despite warning from his colleagues. The boat was searched, and an enormous hoard of wealth and treasure was found.
Not noticing he made a dangerous enemy because of this decision, his superiors sent him away to the Swamps of Crinia to oversee the small town of Bellavia Nuova.
Lorenzo turned out to be a decent leader, almost doubling the wealth the region had by working together with the village elder and his daughter making good trade deals, and improving the overall organization.
After a while, he fell in love with the village elder's daughter, Oriana, a young cleric of Zepha.
Unbeknownst to Lorenzo, his enemy from his days in Crinia had tracked him down, and on the day he and his lover decided they wanted to live together, they were attacked. A beaming red fire came down from a red Dragon - the Beast of Flame - and scorched his lover and much of the village.
This black day became known as the Scouring of Bellavia Nuova.
After a brutal fight, Lorenzo was winning the battle being aided by the villagers and just as the foul beast tried to fly away he cut off its big toe. Seeing as his lover had died in the attack he swore an oath of vengeance against the dragon. He knew his great journey had started.
