Adventurers

Rubbing their bruised limbs and egos, the two dwarves welcomed the rest of the adventuring party back into the room, a judiciously jammed crowbar left behind to keep the door from slamming shut again, and they set off further, hoping to loop back round to the start of the Barrowmaze.

They came to a hub of corridor cul-de-sacs, each one lined with burial alcoves, with a large goat-headed statue at the far end, a glowing sword at its foot. The party tensed at the sight of so many mummified feet and treated skulls, so rather than search each one and risk an ambush Konrad held aloft Conciencia and bade her reveal any nearby magical items. Several alcoves glowed an eerie purple light.

Mandras, several patches of skin still resolutely green after his last encounter with such a creature, hurriedly stepped away.

A clanking sound came from one of the alcoved cul-de-sacs, and several hooded figures emerged. The party fell back to a point where they could bring their spears and shields to bear, and hacked through the walking corpses’ rusty armour without too much trouble. Finding themselves at a dead end, they retreated back to explore another route.

Suddenly the sound of voices came from around the corner, and a flicker of light could be seen. Neither side holding the element of surprise, they eyed each other warily. The new acquaintances, a large band of grubby humans, demanded that the adventurers pay the toll to scavenge these halls, and the adventurers refused violently. They cut down several of the foe, and Koko called upon Mar Nod to hold the enemy leader in stasis. The rest of the figures fled into the darkness, abandoning their chief to the whims of some grumpy adventurers…
