The Ancestral Tree belief, most common in Varland, is centered around honoring and preserving the memory of one's ancestors. Its followers do not worship any deity but instead revere their predecessors, believing that remembering them can strengthen their influence in the physical world, protecting and guiding their descendants. The more people that remember you after your passing, the more potent your spirit becomes.

Naming children after famous forebears is a common practice, both as a way of paying homage and keeping their memory alive. Great names are often repeated within families, and a title is added to a person's name, usually earned through great deeds.

Memory holds great significance to these people, as forgetting one's forefathers can be compared to a great tree whose roots are vanishing. The Unknown, an order of sages tasked with recording everyone's history, were established to fulfill the need to remember every person that ever existed. Regularly, followers are required to visit a Keeper and recount their deeds, big or small, to ensure they are remembered for eternity.
