The Algérie is a French heavy cruiser constructed just before WW2, and remains in French service as a reserve ship. It was part of a French effort to attain naval superiority in the Mediterranean. Though only three ships of its class were constructed, one ended up in Oceanyka, as it was captured and sold off by the Germans post-war. The design was reverse-engineered and reproduced within the country's own shipyards. It is currently one of the most common types of heavy cruiser operated by Oceanyka's private navies.

As a heavy cruiser, the Algerie-class's role is as a flagship for smaller groups. It can confidently engage other ships of its type, or smaller ones. However, it is vulnerable to aerial attack, battleship gunnery, and modern anti-ship missiles. Fortunately, the design is fairly modern, and can be retrofit with more recent weapons systems.
