The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is an American carrier-based light attack aircraft introduced in the mid-1950s. It is capable of hauling as much ordnance as the much larger and older B-17 "Flying Fortress", in a package described by US Navy airmen as "diminutive, tiny, precious, cute". Out of all, the most iconic model is the A-4C, featuring an improved AN/APG-53 fire control radar and autopilot, as well as a low-altitude bombing calculator. The Skyhawk has gained notoriety as the USN's primary method for raining fire on Vietnamese positions during the Vietnam War, notably being designed with nuclear strike capabilities in mind.
