Shrine that can be used to travel to other planes of existence.

"Advancing into the structure you pass the antechamber with its large astrolabe depicting the various planes. Beyond a massive door that used to be disguised as a wall, there is a wide room. Its walls are painted sky-dark and star-white, and they reveal several faded and crumbling plaster-paintings, each telling a story, equally faded and forgotten. One of them, which was spared from the decay more than the rest, shows a group of people running towards something, escaping from something. In the centre of this inner chamber, there is a perfectly circular empty pool, with twelve spherical slots on the sides."

Home of the now six Elemental Guardians (former four Mephits):

Air Mephit > Living Thunderclap

"The creature's head is that of a falcon its body is that of a small and wiry humanoid, with pale blue skin. Around its neck is a metal collar with a blue orb attached, the orbs surface seems to shift slightly if you look at it to long, like a mirror of the sky outside."

- Allurian

After evolution:
Their new evolved form, made entirely out of cloud-like substance, can create lightning when agitated, both intentionally and in answer to Thunderclap's mental state. When especially troubled, they grow smaller and more dense. making their body resemble smoke rather than clouds.

Earth Mephit > Living Landslide

It had a mole head and was unfortunately slained by a party of adventurers, after he went mad and hoard treasure stolen from the rest of its companons.

New Earth guardian:
They are the new member of the "family" - they are the stoic guardian, always taking everything on without a word of complaint, trying their best to be a good friend.

Water Mephit > Living Waterfall

Toad head. Depressed because his companion died.

Evolved into:
Waterfall is like the oldest brother among the elementals, one that tries their best to make the best decisions for everyone. They are close-minded, and need to be proven wrong before they accept the truth, but are not so prideful as to not admit their mistake.

Fire Mephit > Living Wildfire

Dragon head. Haughty and prideful.

Evolved into:
Wildfire is like the youngest brother: what was once pride, now has become a nigh uncontrollable torrent of emotions. When their emotions peak, they summon lesser elementals that duplicate their own emotions and needs. Those emotions are usually anger, fear or yearning for physical touch that neither Waterfall nor Thunderclap can satisfy. Only Landslide is able to provide that without harm.

Living Grove

One of the newest guardians. They don't like to fight, and seem averse to getting hurt, but are kind enough to help others. They have a garden growing on them that they focus most on, and can produce healing fruits like the kineticist feat.

Living Lodestone

A compromise made with an evil Zuhra genie, allowing them to be the newest guardian of metal. They're quite innocent and don't necessarily know what's going on most of the time, but the genie seems to have some plans regarding them.

The now six elemental guardians, though they cannot speak each other's languages, seem to understand each other without issue anyway.
They were also gifted with four Books of Translation (Aquan, Auran, Ignan and Terran), so that future adventurers that need to communicate with them are able to do so without annoying charades (two new languages still pending).

There are Twelve Orb Slots, waiting to be filled.

GM notes

  • Orbs can be slotted in the main chamber with the pool. Doing so, causes a skybeam to shoot up, that is visible from miles away (including First Landing)

  • Slotted orbs cause small colored wisps of light to orbit the astrolabe. This functions like a "selection menu" for adventurers to swap between orbs and choose a destination.

  • Mephits were placed there as Portal Guardians by [redacted]. Check Unknown for more info.
    • A magma dragon was met during Super Selementai: The Search for the Two, claiming to be one of the shrine's creators. The others would be a cloud, crystal and brine dragons, each using their elements to create the place.

  • Mephits are okay with adventurers using the Portal, and most of them will be friendly or even aid when interacting with the portal or slotting new orbs.

  • The Explorer's Guild has been sending guards and researchers to the place in an attempt to build a base there. Mephits are not thrilled about that.

  • One minor NPC from the Explorer's Guild has been introduced: Hesk (she/her). An Iruxi fighter and scout working for the Explorer's Guild. She's stoic and polite. Tasked with keeping the team of researchers safe. She will help any adventurers, but won't leave her post near the Portal.

  • With the strange changes in the world recently, two more planes were added to the map in the middle, along with the Living Grove and Living Lodestone guardians.
