Lord Attys

the Viniferous, the Purple Baron, the Liberator, He Who Conquers Death, the Sun of the Morning
NPC

The Purple Baron is a Hamadryad lord under Aseron, and he rules over Eleutheria, where he produces his famous wine, Eleutherian Vintage. Consuming it can sometimes lead to Fey influences taking hold of the drinker, though he claims that this is never his intent, and such a metamorphosis should happen as a result of free will and deliberate choice.

Attys is in a conflict with his sister, Lady Vesper who rules over the neighbouring Barony, AvilionMarsyas the Satyr serves him, although the two appear to be close friends, and have some prior history - part of which involves Marsyas' exclusion from ever partaking of Eleutherian Vintage again, and even banishment from the Purple Barony proper. According to Bulae, Attys was friends with Geyesh; during the investigation of the murder of Freygeys, on the quest Duchy Quest 2: Satyr Boogaloo, an Eleutherian coin granting free passage was found on the body of the assassin, Archrdeon.

An enchanting, handsome man with smoothest, dark-ish bark for skin, bright purple eyes, and with pointed leaves, juicy grapes and sturdy vines coiling around his limbs or decorating his cascading, deep-purple hair like a crown-wreath. He is dressed in a lavender toga that reveals most of his strong chest, and there is a short leopard-fur cloak clasped to his shoulders. In his hands are a gilded goblet which never seems to empty, and some kind of pinecone-headed staff.

Lord Attys was first encountered during the quest A House of Cards

He was also invited for the First Landing's First Annual Lunar New Year Tournament in First Landing, which he attended with his sister Lady Vesper and their superiors, AseronLord Asculith, and Svetlana Skullcrusher. He was later present in Visage during All Work and No Play.

Being a Hamadryad, Lord Attys is tied to the land that he governs. To travel outside of the Purple Barony without suffering the consequences of his separation from his bound domain, he employs an elaborate construction of nature and magic.

Loud commotion heralds his arrival. Sounds of panpipe music thrill the air, and a pleasant, vaguely lavender haze descends upon the surroundings. Red-cheeked revelry, carefree cheer, click-clacking prancing and joyous song in every step, every motion, every breath - it's hard to resist the urge to join the celebration and dance, dance, dance.

Something that could be described as a moving isle is creeping forward. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a huge chunk of land, with supporting branches and roots. Water Elementals cascade down the slopes like fountains and waterfalls, leaving little rivulets in their wake that evaporate in time. Towering, vaguely humanoid boulders carry the tangled mass of nature like servants hauling a ginormous palanquin-garden, and they are aided by equally massive and presumably ancient Arboreals that are partially woven into the land. Grapevines are twined around stones and trunks, bearing rich druses of purple and red. A cavalcade of Kirins and Unicorns is serving as pack animals, helping pull the entire thing forward.

Upon this mobile island, and around it, are processions of Satyrs, Nymphs, Leshies and Sprites, celebrant and rapturous. They are accompanied by feats of natural beauty and primal magic - colours, music, and similar festivities.

On top of the entire natural construction, there is a throne weaved into existence from wood by magic - intricate, regal, decorated with motifs seen elsewhere within this entire ensamble, as well as glowing, radiant, beaming morning suns. Leopard furs cover it partially, providing cushioned comfort to the seated figure - Lord Attys the Viniferous, the Baron of Eleutheria.

This way, Lord Attys brings a literal chunk of his physical domain with him whenever he leaves Eleutheria, circumventing the issues associated with a Nymph being separated from their bonded area of the natural world.

During the quest All Work and No Play, Lord Attys was respecting the local traditions of Visage, and was thus present while wearing a mask.

GM Notes - Personality

- Lord Attys is a carefree soul dedicated to the pursuits of luxurious comfort and absolute freedom from most things in life that he is not agreeable with. As a Hamadryad, he is not chained to one particular plant, and is instead tending to a greater region, which is considered his Barony (though the Barony itself includes some areas that aren't a forest, not are mystically tied to him, like the Copper Mountain).

- Slow and difficult to anger, even he has his limits, and his retribution is a terrible thing to behold. His gardens still hold the memory of those unfortunate enough to overstep his boundaries, and his liberating fruit is known to turn to poison in the hands of his enemies.

- Attys is a Necromancer with ties to death and rebirth, but not of Unknown kind - he despises that darker side of the practice, and considers it uncouth and too perverted even for his decadent tastes. [Potential plot hook for helping him out with an Undead infestation?] Instead, his magic focuses on cyclical regeneration and overflowing life, and his body may not decay or rot at all. When he considers that it is his time to die, he is ritualistically torn apart by his frenzied servants, who consume all of him; soon after, Lord Attys sprouts back from the earth with renewed vigour, to hunt down his killers and consume them, instead. [Potential plot hook to participate in one such ritual?]

- Satyrs are the most common element of his entourage, as they share his tendencies for debauchery and freedom. Attys doesn't police them too much, for better or for worse. The rest of his servants include other Nymphs (mainly Dryads), as well as Fruit, Pine, and Vine Leshies.

- Lord Attys has never been interested in the life at King Aseron's Fey Court of the Millennium Forest, preferring to (mostly) independently oversee his own Barony in ways that he sees fit, and organising his own debauched revelry there, only for the selected guests.

- Rivalry with his sister, the Hesperid Queen Lady Vesper, who rules over Avilion, the Golden Barony. She is known for her Hesperidian Cider, made from the enchanted apples which grow in her groves there. Attys claims that this drink is just a short-lived fad, and that his own produce, Eleutherian Vintage, is far more superior in every aspect. [Potential plot hook to resolve this rivalry or fuel it further, and determine which drink is truly the best?]
