The title Hegemon of the Free Cities is an ancient title which is historically claimed by individuals who control the entirety of or large portions of the Free Cities. The title originates from the Kardunashi Sea Empire's title of Hegemon of the East, the ruling title of the Sea Lord's appointed governor of the Yekari territories of the Sea Empire. At present, Hegemon of the Free Cities is one of many titles used by the Shahanshah.
