Kardunash is an island-city-state located on the island of Kardun in the Sea of Gold. The city was built by Unknown and was part of the Deshenite Kingdom. It is the largest city in the world and is the oldest continually inhabited settlement in the world. The city survived the Great Flood due to the power of its King Urshu I, a powerful sorcerer.

In the modern day, the city is governed as an aristocratic oligarchic republic, with a legislative council made up of representatives from the Great Houses, and a head of state called the Pharon who is elected for life from the Council. The city exercises direct control over the entire island, though the actual city covers about half of it. Additionally, Kardunash retains some island-colonies in the Sea of Gold, the last remnants of its once great Empire. Kardunash is the origin-point for the language of Common, having spread it through colonization to the western coast of Yekare. Most of the Free Cities were founded as colonies of the ancient Kardunashi Sea Empire, though they have since gained independence long ago.

The city is a bustling and thriving trade hub, maintaining strong trading ties around the world.

Culture

Most Kardunashi are traders, sailors, or laborers. Due to the geography of Kardun and the sheer size of Kardunash, arable land is scarce, meaning that farming is not a common profession. The people of Kardunash strongly worship Zot, who is the patron deity of the city. Kardunash has a rich history of festivals, rituals, arts, and philosophy owing to its several-millennia long history.
