Eye of Xarashe

Artifact

The Eye of Xarashe, also known as the Dark Orb, is an artifact of great power linked to the progenitor god Xac'huranac. It is a dangerous and highly volatile artifact that promises great power, but will exact a steep price in return.

Description

A perfectly rounded orb that appears to be crafted from a dark, ashy glass. Peering into the orb reveals an ever-twisting dark infinity, and belies the peculiar sensation of being observed. Faint whispers in Draconic may occasionally be heard emanating from the orb, though they are generally too distorted to understand.

Effects

The Eye is essentially a hole between dimensions that functions as a direct conduit to the Tearing Planes, otherwise known as Xarashe. Those that open their minds to the orb may call on its considerable destructive power, which may take on a number of forms. This power is nigh uncontrollable, and highly antagonistic towards the user, often leading to insanity or corruption.

The orb has been witnessed manifesting the following effects:

  • Pulling individuals into Xarashe with shadowy chains
  • Manifesting dark tendrils of power that tear through living matter
  • Generating a powerful blast of necrotic energy
  • Manifesting a beam of concentrated darkness
  • Stealing the soul of an individual

History

It is unknown how the orb ended up in the Material Plane, but it has been implied that the orb may have existed since the Age of Dragons.

The Fuselian dragon cult the Dracohest eventually managed to acquire the orb, which they used to great extent throughout their conquests and various schemes. However, in Iron 951, the orb was stolen away from the cult by the tieflings Karcius and Valx when the Dracohest invaded and occupied their home.

Karcius and Valx were later defeated in battle by their sister Journey and her adventuring party, the Peas. Journey held on to the orb for a time, keeping it away from those that might abuse its power.

In Iron 966, while Journey and the dragonborn Tyerjon were working to dismantle the operations of the Dracohest, the orb was stolen back by the cult, who attempted to use it in a ritual to summon a child of Xac'huranac in Iron 968. The ritual was sabotaged, however, which ultimately resulted in the destruction of the leaders of the Dracohest, though the orb remained unharmed. Journey later escorted the orb to Sanaris, where it was sealed inside an impregnable vault only accessible by those with the blood of House Zelvass.
