A magic weapon.

Description

An oversized greatsword with a wide steel blade, worn somewhat from years of use. A set of five large runes are carved into the side of the blade on either side. These runes glow dimly, only visible in darkness. The blade always seems cool to the touch.

Effects

The sword appears to be some form of magical conduit, enchanted by some sort of ancient ritualistic magic. While it hasn’t regained all of its former glory, it is capable of some minor wondrous feats.

Sahanda. The power of the first rune, Sahanda, may be summoned. Once a day, the chosen wielder of the sword may command it to expel a thick mist in a 15 foot radius as a bonus action, considered heavily obscured to all who are not touching Frosthold. The heavy mist builds up on objects and creatures in the vicinity, coating them in cold water.

Golen-daz. The power of the second rune, Golen-daz, may be summoned. Once a day, the chosen wielder of the sword may command the sword to slash through the very air itself. When you take the Attack action on your turn in combat, you may activate this rune, which imbues Frosthold with a silvery, glowing light. Until the end of your next turn, Frosthold’s range is increased to 15 feet, and an additional 5 slashing damage may be added to all attacks.

Golen-daz Sahanda. You may choose to use both Sahanda and Golen-daz simultaneously. As an action, you imbue Frosthold with an aura of slicing mist, swinging it out widely and savagely to all those around you. Each creature in a 15 foot radius must make a Dexterity saving throw equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your Proficiency bonus. On a failed save, a creature takes 3d6 slashing damage as well as 3d6 cold damage, and is blinded until the end of your next turn. A creature takes half as much damage on a successful save, and is not blinded. Creatures you choose in the radius may have advantage on their Dexterity save, provided you are able to speak and they can hear you.

History

Tyerjon received Frosthold from his home far to the north, in the Frostwilds.

During the sealing of Tarisi, as Tyerjon used Frosthold against the demigod, its runes began to glow brighter. Tyerjon was later able to call the power of Sahanda, creating a large, misty area that only he could see through.

After cutting into Mardyth a number of times in his awakened form, the second rune Golen-daz lit up, giving the sword the ability to cut through the air itself. Tyerjon learned that the runes could be combined to create devastating effects.
