Orc Ham Razor

Wondrous Item

The Orc Ham Razor is a crude weapon and wondrous item capable of forcing creatures to embrace conspiratorial thought and abandon their senses of reason, should it be embedded in their skin.

Description

A crude looking cleaver that appears to have been made with whatever was lying around. The edge of the blade is pocked and rusty. It smells faintly of ham.

Effects

On a successful hit, the target creature must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature becomes extremely susceptible to conspiratorial thought for 10 minutes. The more complicated an explanation, the more likely they are to believe it, potentially giving persuasive arguments advantage. They will begin to find simple and straightforward explanations suspect, potentially applying disadvantage. The length of the effect will stack for each successful hit and save failure.

Affected creatures will desire to strike out at enemies with the cleaver. If no enemies are in sight, they will wish to embed the cleaver in their own head.

History

The Peas found the cleaver in the Caedalir Woods during their journey up to Sanaris, embedded in a living orc's skull. Ormag was apparently possessed by the cleaver for 3 years. When Journey was cut by the cleaver, she fought off some strange, foreign thoughts. When she read Ormag's writing, she became compelled to put the cleaver in her head for a time, before snapping out of it. Tyerjon put the cleaver at the top of a tree, but Wander eventually retrieved the razor, and later identified it.

Wander traveled with the cleaver for some time, constantly threatening to use it on his opponents, but never truly commiting to it until he gifted it to Arghan Highmaker Athuniano. The weapon seemed to have little effect on Arghan due to his low intelligence, who used it to fight with Inglis Alexandar in the Unknown outside the Tomb of Zelvass. At some point soon after, the cleaver was lost to Arghan.

Later, the razor fell into the hands of the wizard Ryla Mulaweyrn, who gifted it to the Unknown during her travels in Atavar. The professors at the university delighted in studying the strange magic that compelled the razor, but reportedly, the razor was lost to them as well.

“This thing is the enemy of reason! I will not have sight of it any longer!”
