Erigor the Wicked
NPC

Erigor, often referred to by himself as Erigor the Wicked, is a strange, violent feytouched man that has an unrelenting obsession with death and the consumption of flesh. Operating primarily out of the Scratchwood, Erigor accosts travelers, killing them with extreme prejudice and feeding on their bodies. While his recklessness often lands him in over his head, he possesses a strange form of immortality that continually resurrects him by enveloping whatever remains of his corpse in a cocoon and reconstituting his body. Erigor seems to hold grudges against those who kill him. He might be a little bit unhinged.

Description

Appearance

While he occasionally disguises himself with magic, Erigor's true form is that of a tall, thin man with pale green skin, glossy, fully black eyes, long pointed ears, and thin eyebrows that grow long off his face, sticking off the sides of his head. He has long, off-white hair that splays out wildly when not held together by a band, and sports four long, insect-like wings. Erigor's teeth are exceedingly sharp, and his tongue is pointed. He dresses in what looks to be a thin, latticed carapace that is bound to him like a tunic, but wears plain, often bloodied clothes on top of this.

Personality

Erigor is extremely unstable, but his driving forces are generally his bloodlust and his hunger for flesh, particularly that of humanoids. While his disposition usually results in bloodshed for whoever he encounters, he is capable of creating alliances with others if it increases his chances of getting what he wants. However, regardless of the nature of his relationships, he views others as expendable, willing to feast on his own comrades to restore his health.

Erigor is fond of embroidery.

Skills and Abilities

Erigor is a capable fighter, though his methods are rather unorthodox. He will employ underhanded methods in combat to achieve his goals. He is also extraordinarily nimble, and is fond of climbing atop his victims and stabbing with his daggers at their arteries.

Fey Physiology

As a fey creature, Erigor is likely highly resistant to being charmed. His body is suited with various natural weapons, including claw-like hands and extremely sharp teeth.

When Erigor's body ceases function, it begins to generate an enveloping carapace that forms a cocoon around whatever remains of his corpse. Over a period of time, his body is broken down into a thick paste, which is eventually reformed into a working, living body again. This ability is extremely resilient, as Erigor has been seen to survive even being burnt beyond recognition after having his body mutilated. Trauma to the carapace seems only capable of slowing Erigor's reformation, but it so face has not been seen to stop it. It appears that Erigor is capable of using this process to evolve his abilities, granting him new powers and forms.

Magic

Erigor is capable of using simple magic. So far, he has displayed the following abilities:

  • Flight
  • Disguising Magic
  • Producing lightning from his hands
  • Maddening other creatures
  • Conjuring fey creatures
  • Creating a swarming mass of bees

History

Around Iron 975, Erigor had arrived to the Material Plane from the Feywild by some means and taken over a small force of bandits that had defected from Unknown, instilling in them cannibalistic tendencies. At some point Erigor was slain by a traveler through the Scratchwood, causing Erigor to hunt the individual endlessly. The hunted man was eventually able to discover a method of banishing Erigor, killing him while uttering his true name. According to the information broker Raldon Tarrod, the man was able to learn this name from the Watcher in the Dancing Peaks, though Erigor managed to return years later.

At some point in Iron 989 or earlier, Erigor disguised himself as a human bandit and began leading a party of cannibalistic raiders that would accost travelers making their way through the Scratchwood. In 989, Erigor's party was destroyed by a group of Initiates from Cloverhall, a Claw of Arali base in the nearby town of Reedenford. Erigor himself was killed, mutilated, burnt, and buried deep in the ground. In particular, his hand was cut off by the guild member Lambchop and later given to the Cold Lady in trade, while a magical weapon in his possession, Lightstake, was taken by Caedali after he almost managed to kill her with it.

Eventually, Erigor reconstituted and set out to track down the Initiates and enact his revenge. He managed to find them in the western forests of the Scratchwood and hid in a tree in ambush, only to be discovered by Kel Stevaen, who had not been a part of the attack that killed his men. Uncaring, he took Kel as his first target, climbing on top of her and stabbing, biting, and eventually coursing electricity through her, which ending up providing Kel with a horrible scar around her neck. He was soon after dispatched by the others from Cloverhall after being put to sleep and then summarily reduced to a slurry, left to slowly reconstitute himself in the forest.

Erigor would continue to attack the Cursebusters as they entered the Scratchwood, each time attempting to take the lives of one of its members. During a particular outing, after killing Erigor, the group decided to shunt his corpse into their bag of holding. He emerged again 3 days later to attack them, but was quickly incapacitated and killed. While his body was left to cocoon as normal, the party took his head and encased it between two wheels of cheese.

Erigor appeared again to the Cursebusters as they did battle with a group of mages from the Dark Embers. As if in response to getting his head cut off, he appeared with two heads, through one was listless and unresponsive. Erigor attacked the wizards for stealing his "prey", soon turning his attention to the adventurers after killing two of them. He conjured four giant blue horses and then flooded the cave they were in with thousands of bees, resulting in the death of the sorcerer Merja. Erigor was quickly dealt with afterwards, but Lambchop threw the corpse of a Dark Ember wizard into his forming cocoon, curious to see what would happen.
