Avelos the Learned

High Enchanter
NPC

Avelos the Learned is a tortle enchanter and the proprietor of the Lucid Dove. He appears very elderly. Affixed to his shell is a towering structure of cabinets and drawers, where he keeps all manner of magical items and components.

Description

Avelos is a medium-sized tortle. His skin is a dark, dry green, and he has soft, kind eyes. He has grey bushy eyebrows. Apparently part of his shell is a large wooden tower of cabinets and drawers, which he utilizes for enchanting work.

Avelos is kind-hearted, and wishes that his items are used for good purposes. He speaks slowly, but with purpose.

Skills and Abilities

Avelos appears to be a somewhat skilled enchanter, capable of at least making a Bag of Holding for the Peas.

Avelos is a powerful practitioner of magic, as well as a competent artificer, capable of setting up one of Renbedar's beacons.

History

Avelos founded his shop in the Spiral Ward at some point in his past. Something happened between Renbedar and Avelos that placed the tortle deeply in the wizard's debt, but it is unsure exactly what transpired.

The Peas worked with Avelos a good number of times, both buying and selling objects of power with the enchanter. Journey once sold him her Ring of Birdsight, which he re-enchanted into a Ring of Birdflight, allowing the user to fly for a short period. In order to disguise Seamus during the party's journey through Sanaris, Avelos provided the party with the Polymorph Amulet (Princess Turica), alongside a warning about its properties.

Avelos was also instrumental in removing the curses placed on the enchanted items the party received in Peralas, and even upgraded some of the items for an additional fee.

Avelos assisted in the attack against Zahast the Vilespawn, setting up one of the beacons alongside Vetraxu and her devils near the Lake of Hands. Avelos successfully completed his mission, and began the long march back to civilization shortly after Zahast's defeat. During the Battle for the Sun, Avelos volunteered his arcane services to the armies, and stayed back in the battle to maintain the protective wards in order to resist the influence of the Unknown.

Avelos eventually returned to his shop in Madrioc, continuing to sell his wares and occasionally working with the famed inventor, Vinn Vinnfeck.
