JF20. Infiltrating The Dragon's Horde

Completed

The Jade Foxes were asked to come to lunch by Felicia d'Cannith.  With Canton Busby and Arranis unavailable, the rest of the party headed to the Azure Gateway in Sharn.  En-route, they noticed that there were a number of warforged in the street, bearing the symbols of both House Cannith and the Sharn City Guard.  It was surmised that the deal between Breland and House Cannith as seen in Sharn Inquisitive Issue on Border Tensions was in effect.

Felicia d'Cannith explained that Boras d'Cannith was implementing the final phase of his plan.  Having staged several assassinations on the border between Breland and Aundair, Boras d'Cannith was planning on restarting the Last War.  By doing this, he hoped to restore the fortunes of House CannithBoras d'Cannith previous efforts - allying with the Aurum through a marriage alliance through his son Elias d'Cannith , allying with Masque, attempting to kill Boranel ir'Wynarn and looking for ancient weapons by funding archaeologists like Lucian Weaver had all been part of this effort.  Felicia d'Cannith stood against him, as she hoped that House Cannith could be as successful in peace as it was in war, but her standing was waning as the rest of the House Cannith flocked to support the person they saw as a winner.

Felicia d'Cannith knew that Boras d'Cannith was on an archaeological dig, as he had found one that offered the weapon that he wanted.  Felicia d'Cannith did not know where Boras d'Cannith was, but she had one lead - she knew that Boras d'Cannith's son Elias d'Cannith was in Sharn at that very moment, and that he frequented a private members club known as The Dragon's HordeFelicia d'Cannith didn't have access to it, but was able to provide blueprints to the building as a guide.  She told them as soon as they had the location, they should head to House Orien; and she gave them a letter to present there, so that they would be transported where they needed to be.

Rahl Morninglow, Kraxor Tyraneroth and Sarran spent some time analysing the map, before deciding to go in through the delivery entrance at the back.  They stopped off at a nearby potion shop to stock up, before heading to their chosen approach.  A pair of dwarves were unloading some crates; judging by the signage, they were delivering wine.  Kraxor Tyraneroth and Sarran drank potions of invisibility to get in, while Rahl Morninglow chose to disguise himself as a drunken patron.  They managed to sneak in, and avoid the servant that they could hear talking to the dwarven delivery men.  After the dwarves had left, they headed onwards and found a note that the servant had left detailing deliveries to each of the private rooms; but they were unable to discern which was for Elias d'Cannith.

The servant returned, and finding Rahl Morninglow escorted him up to the main level, with the others following closely behind.  They searched through the building as much as possible, eavesdropping on conversations, searching the servants quarters and listening at doors.  Rahl Morninglow overhead the manager dressing down a servant about a set of lost keys; the Jade Foxes kept an eye out for them, but were unable to find them.

Narrowing their choice down to two possible rooms, Sarran drank a Potion of Gaseous Form and went through each keyhole.  The first room contained two nobles getting drunk, but the second one contained their target as he was consuming the drug DreamlilySarran reformed, confusing Elias d'Cannith, and let the others in.  They interrogated Elias d'Cannith; eventually Rahl Morninglow was able to persuade him to help them, despite Elias d'Cannith's obvious fear of his father.  Elias d'Cannith told them that his father was at Tallran in the Talenta Plains; he was looking for a weapon by the name of Odessa.  The Jade Foxes told Elias d'Cannith to go to his aunt, and agreed to get him out.  As they were no longer invisible, Rahl Morninglow used his familiar to cause a distraction while they headed out of the front door.  Elias d'Cannith headed off to meet Felicia d'Cannith, while the Jade Foxes headed to House Orien.

The favour that Felicia d'Cannith offered got them teleportation to Gatherhold, the only major settlement in the Talenta Plains.  House Orien also offered the services of Veral, a local halfling guide.  He took them across the plains on clawfeet, and instructed his son to wait for Canton Busby and Arranis so that they could follow.  On the way they were attacked by another halfling with several clawfeet, but the battle was swift.

They reached Tallran just before nightfall, and set up camp to wait for the rest of the party.
