JF16. The Frozen King

Completed

Continuing their expedition into the Mournland (JF15. Into The Mournland), the Jade Foxes continued into the cavern, finding an abandoned campsite with several undead.  After quickly defeating them, they following the tunnels until they found themselves in an iced-over ruin.  Strike gingerly made his way over a crack in the ice and found a large greatsword on an altar; he gave it to Kraxor Tyraneroth to use, but the dragonborn preferred to continue using his glaive.  Continuing on, they found another large crevice.  Rahl Morninglow phased-stepped across, whereas the rest had to jump, with @strike nearly falling down into the abyss below.

Eventually they found their way into a tomb.  Each altar inside had a riddle over it, and solving the riddle gained the party a potion.  They were able to decipher three of the four riddles, but after struggling with the final one they gave up and instead looked at the coffin at one end of the chamber.  Touching the coffin opened a secret door, which revealed access to a large chamber that looked like the centre of a dormant volcano.

At the centre of the chamber the book that they were after could be seen, but it was guarded by several undead.  They charged forward, but the Jade Foxes quickly realised that there was another threat - the warforged led by Glaive had also found their way in, and were trying to get the book first.  Strike ran ahead and grabbed the book, but was unprepared for the effect, as it attempted to take control of his mind.  Meanwhile Glaive attempted to persuade Strike to join them, saying that the book could be used to exert pressure on the Five Nations to give the warforged better rights.

Adding to the chaos, the book somehow summoned a blue dragon that tore threw the warforged, killing several of them including Glaive.  Sensing that perhaps Strike was about to betray them, Kriv and Sarran struck first, killing Strike.  They now charged forwards towards the book, but the blue dragon stood in their way.  The dragon wore them down to the point where the Jade Foxes were at the point of defeat, so Kraxor Tyraneroth chose to activate the Teleport Stone that Felicia d'Cannith had given them.  Kriv was able to obtain the book and throw it to Kraxor Tyraneroth, but the blue dragon blocked his passage to the portal.  The Jade Foxes ran through the portal, having obtained the book to save Sharn but only at the cost of abandoning one of their own.

The fallout from this mission was great; Rahl Morninglow began to question Sarran for his actions in turning on Strike, and Kraxor Tyraneroth took the death of Kriv very personally, as it had been his decision to activate the Teleport Stone.
