JF06. The Wave Trials

Completed

The Jade Foxes were told that there was a letter awaiting Kraxor Tyraneroth at the House Sivis Message Station in Tavick's Landing, Sharn.  They headed there to retrieve it, but found the message station had been taken over by a pair of Aurum orcs.  Apparently in the absence of Thule 'Bearkiller' Malachan, the Aurum had turned into in-fighting to find the new Sharn crime boss.  After defeating the orcs, the Jade Foxes were thanked by Max d'Sivis, the gnome than ran the message station.  He promised a further reward for them, which would later arrive as Letter from Dorian d'Sivis.

The message for Kraxor Tyraneroth was a summons to the Cloister of Dawn's Touch for additional training and assessment, and it noted that he should bring his friends.  The letter was signed by Moondancer, which concerned Kraxor Tyraneroth because his training was previously supervised by Coldrak the Wise.  An airship had been arranged for transport.

Several weeks later, the Jade Foxes arrived at the secluded monastery.  They were greeted by Moondancer, who explained that Coldrak the Wise had recently died under suspicious circumstances.  Kraxor Tyraneroth had been summoned to undertake the Wave Trials; a series of three trials to determine his growth.  While walking to the first trial, Canton struck up conversation with an apprentice that had been experimenting with dragonshards.  Unfortunately the experiment had backfired, and he had a permanent Mage Armour affect on him, giving him a curious magical sheen.

The first trial was the Challenge of Wisdom.  Three riddles were presented to them, and the Jade Foxes were able to answer all three successfully.

The second trial was the Challenge of Guile.  The Jade Foxes had to make their way over a gully in a cavern, up a greasy slope, over a narrow wooden beam while being shot at by darts, and finally through a pool of water in a room that was filling with gas.

The third trial was the Challenge of Strength.  This was a fight to first blood with five apprentices; they were led by Ivress Larec, an old rival of Kraxor Tyraneroth.  It became quickly apparent that Ivress Larec was using a poisoned weapon, and unlike his allies he fought to the death.

As they successfully passed all three trials, each of the Jade Foxes was rewarded with some training - either the feat of Keen Mind, the feat of Athlete, or the feat of Durable.
