Golgazak

The Grand Subjugator
Deity

"The Grand Subjugator is a curious case of a demigod's creation gone horribly wrong; 'Tis said that in the olden days, they were borne of Borsimer's severed arm during a conflict with the God of Orcs, given life by Alissa and Atemar in hopes of a more benevolent progeny to tame the God of War. What came after was, perhaps, the Life Mother and Merciful Father's greatest regret - Golgazak, the Grand Subjugator, a being who sought to end all wars, yes, but still they had the fire of Borsimer's thirst for battle burn within them, and so it was that this errant new godling was not, as they wished, one who would end wars through benevolence, but through violence: Overwhelming, despotic, and carnal violence. Though nowadays his clerics and faithful are grudgingly respected as able tacticians and find employ in many a kings' courts as strategists and war ministers, make no mistake - for it is only through the power of Borsimer's might that Golgazak's eternal lust for subjugation is tamed, and should that power be broken, the tragedies that would be unleashed upon Aranor would be too great for any historian, writer, or poet to accurately capture in writing."

- "A Treatise on the Various Demigods and Demigoddesses of Aranor" by Elven scholar Ciala Duskbringer, 213 C.F.

Golgazak the Grand Subjugator, Breaker of Sieges is the demigod of conquest and subjugation. A mighty child of Borsimer, Golgazak is said to represent the final stages of war, in which a victor comes out on top to conquer the loser. They are often depicted as a robed figured holding chains and a whip in hand.

History

The history of Golgazak is a controversial one, having been considered one of the more 'dubious' and outright 'evil' deities of Aranor in fragments of records from before the Curse of Falandine. Tales from the Forgotten Age purport that Golgazak was born from the severed arm of Borsimer during a violent conflict with Acheros, the God of Orcs, given life by Alissa and Atemar in the hopes of creating a more benevolent counterpart to Borsimer's warmongering ways.

The gambit half-succeeded, albeit in a manner that horrified the other two gods; What came about of their attempt was indeed a being that sought to end all wars, but instead of doing so by peaceful, diplomatic manners, the resultant demigod was determined to do so by subjugating and conquering mortal beings in whatever wars they could participate in, often as a rogue element independent of their father's wishes. In the end, Golgazak had to be subdued by none other than Borsimer himself. The two struck a deal - in exchange for their freedom, Golgazak would join the Borsimeri pantheon and restrain themselves from directly attempting to subjugate the mortal races.

Characteristics

Although worship of Golgazak is sparse among the more benevolent races of Aranor, Golgazak is nonetheless worshipped and revered by warlords, tyrants and conquerors for their strength and historical ability to bring entire civilizations at their heel. Many an Oath of Conquest is often uttered with Golgazak as the deity of choice, and many war clerics often also choose to incorporate elements of their tenets into their worship. The faithful of Golgazak frequently work in war cabinets as advisors to kings, lords, and politicians seeking victory in times of conflict.

Ironically, in addition to being a source of hatred to gods like Alissa and demigods like Solreneos and Xynthana, Golgazak is also disliked by a significant amount of Borsimer worshipers, who consider their seeking an end to war to be blasphemous to the eternal battle that Borsimer often desires.

Golgazak's symbol is a pair of chains and a whip.
