Falandine

God of Fate
Deity

"Curses we bring unto thee, O Betrayer of mortal races,
Through whose cruel magics we forget our ancestors' faces,
The All-knowing Father who sits on his damnable throne,
Has taken from us the stories that were woven in our bones,

Curses we bring unto thee, O Keeper of Time and Weaver of Fate,
With all our spite shall we declare our eternal hate,
We, who must now walk this world and learn of it's essence anew,
Will strive to search for the remnants of those whose memories you slew"

"The Betrayer", Poem written by Unknown, Year 30 A.C.

Falandine the Fate Weaver, also known as the Time Keeper, the All-knowing, and the Betrayer, he is the god of fate, time, and knowledge. One of Aranor's ancient gods, Falandine is the keeper of all history and guilty of the cataclysmic event known as the Curse of Falandine, presumed to be the sole being of Aranor that truly remembers the Forgotten Age.

History

In spite of being a god of knowledge there is not much that is preserved of Falandine's own history or the part he played in Aranor in the Forgotten Age but his most infamous deed has ensured his eternal place in the history of the world - unless it is repeated again. The world-spanning act of divine intervention known as the Curse of Falandine is what burned the memories of Aranor's past both from mortal minds and from preserved records at the beginning of the Age of Fear, the world's denizens awakening to the ruins of shattered homes of what seemed like countless catastrophic events manifested in different forms across the known world.

This deed has led to the diminishing of whatever faith Falandine once had and the destruction of his library-temples when mortals lashed out in retaliation as the truth dawned on them, setting back the return of civilization with the amassed knowledge set to torch in an event remembered as the Pyres of Memories Lost. Remembered as the Betrayer for his violation of the mortal peoples', the Fate Weaver's name is today largely reviled.

Characteristics

Truly communing only with a small number of chosen of his already greatly diminished faith, there are precious few accounts of Falandine's person. The shape he appears to favour is that of a gray-bearded, ancient giant or a wizened human man, golden-eyed and supported by a staff, exuding an air of infinite wisdom but also aloofness and the bitterness of a being weighed by the magnitude of his responsibilities. While he is loathe to speak of his infamous deeds and tight-lipped about anything to do with the Forgotten Age, he remains devoted to the continued pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the mortal races, preserving the lost history of Aranor that possibly only he still remembers cleary and recording it's continued march.

Worship

In the present Age of Rediscovery the faith of Falandine continues to fade into obscurity, while private shrines live on in the dusty studies of dedicated scholars and he remains a patron of librarians to openly worship him is to invite scorn in most corners of Aranor. The few temples that are tolerated, however, contain some of the most concentrated collections of lore and history in existence and the staunch few followers devoted to their preservation are on constant vigil that the Pyre of Memories Lost shall never be repeated again. Although one of the most influential beings of Aranor's history his reach and influence diminishes by the century with his dying faith and that is exactly the way some would rather have it.

Pre-curse imagery of Falandine's holy symbol was that of an open book that has since become closed, now symbolizing both the pursuit of knowledge as well as the safeguarding of that which he deems better left forgotten. His favoured weapon is the quarterstaff after his own affectation and the domains most commonly practiced within his faith are Arcana and Knowledge.
