A young elven hermit, a decade or three short of being able to consider herself a full-fledged adult. A child like her shouldn’t be roaming alone, especially when she’s not around acceptable adventuring age - and it’s clear by her naivety that she isn’t ready to be on her own, either. Yet here she is, flitting between towns, a fish out of water amidst literally everyone else.
If she had a choice in the matter, she wouldn’t be roaming - not even a little bit. But her… ‘caretaker?’ ‘mentor?’ ‘master?’ Something like that. The word doesn’t translate nicely from the fae language, but the person who took her in has gone missing.
Regardless, they’ve been gone long enough that even an elf like Carel has managed to notice enough to be worried, so she’s taken the first steps in her known life beyond the safety of her home to find out why.
By all appearances, Carel is very clearly a bog standard elf of the Material Plane (or equivalent there-of) - but for some reason, she counts as a fae where being a fae matters.
In truth, Carel is an artificially-created being - some sort of chimera. AKA: She basically got shou-tuckered. It turns out that her master was actually a green dragon, and she was created with the purpose of being a lure trap - enticing to stronger planar entities that wish to hold more influence over the material plane, yet cannot manifest properly themselves.... giving the opportunity to use their full power on a realm normally out of their reach. But by taking control of her, it would be at the cost of being placed under the dragon’s direct control. However, she still needs some fine-tuning before she can be used for her intended purpose - her pesky free will has yet to be removed... and she's run off in this mix-up before the final adjustments can be made.
Carel has no idea about any of this - not even her master’s true identity. Enjoy.
- Paranoid and cowardly, skittish around people she doesn’t know. Clearly a kid who has lived a very sheltered life, kept away from other people. However, warms up quickly around other kids and to most shows of kindness.
- Elves only consider themselves ‘adults’ at around 100 or 110 years of age. If the base ‘adult’ or ‘adventuring’ human age is 16, then she’s probably 14 years old equivalently in elven years. She is literally just a kid.
- She’s very proud of her abilities and won’t hesitate if given a chance to show off her skill with a bow.
- Carel has not grown up with elven customs - elf culture is foreign to her. This is very telling about her mentor/master.
- The brooch she wears is a gift from her mentor/master. It’s a “Non-detection" type charm - she cannot be found through magical means.
- Love-hate relationship with owls
- No animal companion, summons a pack of Blink Dogs hunting hounds instead
