"The Jealousy Beneath the Earth's Crust"

One really hot mess of an abandoned wife.

Only ever wanted to be a good partner, why did it end up like this?

A Hashihime, a spirit with a wounded heart, Parsee Mizuhashi guards the topmost layer of what used to be Hell. Though the Yamas have shut down her particular chamber of charge, the Hashihime has never once left, still guarding it to this day. However, while she is technically the guardian between Here and There, it is probably more appropriate to call her the very embodiment of jealousy.

The Hashihime’s strife is a curious one, the soul of a mortal woman who desired for the power to take revenge against the one who wronged her, a man whom she loved dearly. Power she was granted, but at a cost - her soul would become bound to the ‘bridge’ between life and death, binding it with her regrets, forbidden to move forward in the cycle of life. Pitied and feared, but also respected, the poor woman’s soul was enshrined.

However, despite her fearsome reputation in the minds of the ancient populace, she has lost a good deal of her edge in the modern world, which has all but forgotten about the gods and supernatural creatures they once feared. Many distrust the Hashihime’s temper, so her exclusion underground was inevitable. Those who worshiped her pushed her away, and for their mistrust she has pushed them away in turn - spiraling ever further into depression and madness, jealous and envious of those who have lives so much better than hers.

Driven mad by her own negativity, she gained the ability to manipulate jealousy itself.

Unable to survive off what little faith that comes from a humanity which no longer believes in the gods, she has substituted the emotions of jealousy as a source for her magical power. While she may have been a malevolent and unruly deity to begin with, she is most certainly considered a despised and unruly creature now. Though, despite her lowly position (and her knack for destroying rather than protecting) she is still a good guard. One cannot say she does not do her duty, or even remotely fails at it, albeit she may have become over-zealous.

Though a youkai, Parsee retains a human disposition at her core. True to her mistrustful nature, she’s a two-faced woman. Almost normal-seeming, she seems a little bit too cheerful towards strangers if you happen to talk to her directly. However, her smile only masks her true feelings, and in truth she holds little favor or tolerance for others, often resenting them when their backs are turned.

She can’t help it, after all. Their lives are so much better than hers, she can’t help but feel jealous. And though an emotion which only proved she once used to be human, jealousy is an ugly demon, gnawing away at your self-consciousness behind closed doors.

At least those who have earned her ire get to face her true feelings.

Though she keeps her true feelings hidden, she is safe to approach within reason - her demeanor is only natural for her kind. With her abilities to manipulate the emotions, she instigates the jealousy in the hearts of others by approaching them, living off the jealousy of others as they are slowly driven mad by it. There are very few humans who are able to resist the sway of her powers, as most of humanity refuses to come to terms with their own inner demons. Her jealousy does not listen to reason, she cannot be talked out of being jealous.

If those she targets have nothing to be jealous of, then she will become jealous over them, and if they happen to be jealous of her, then their jealousy will sustain her. There is no winning against her mindset, her jealousy is ruthless. You either break to her power and become tormented by negative emotions, or she will become the victim and act out on her own jealousy.

She is at that sort of level of unreasonableness.

However, despite her position, she is not really misfortunate. It only looks that way from an outsiders point of view. So long as there is jealousy, she will have an unlimited source of power, and no-one would threaten her life. She has nothing to fear. The best way to avoid conflict with her is to not provoke her, and to not be provoked by her. A simple greeting should cause no harm if the cards are played right.

Jealousy can lead to self-construction or self-destruction, but as most humans cannot admit or accept their own jealousy, most humans exposed to her power become her food. If you are overwhelmed by her power though, there is a cure.

Vent it out with alcohol.
