History

Environment & Weather

The searing heat of the Sheliad desert is enough to keep people from actively settling it. Though it has supposedly been done before. A sea of sand as far as the eye can reach, unforgiving to those unprepared to traverse it. In modern days there are no active settlements in the Sheliad Desert, though that doesn't mean it is impossible. Some plants adapted to the dry lands can be found, though they are few and far between. Bodies of water can also be found, though sparsely and in small volumes. In modern times this desert is left alone, as no one really seems interested in making the effort to survive in such inhospitable land. Though based off of relics and ruins found during the settling of Patle Diame, there are many scholars who suggest that there used to be, not only one, but many settlements which have since been lost to the sands.

Plants & Wildlife

The plants of this particular region are very different from most, as they need to adapt to incredible weather conditions. Though some are similar to those of other extremely harsh weathers such as freezing highlands or tundras. The plants are incredibly adept at retaining water as sustaining on it for an extended period of time or not needing much water in the first place. Weathered trees, a variety of cacti, and certain wildflowers can be found. Most plants would also be found closest to bodies of water, though as they are prone to drying out there are spots where you find dried out bushes and plants in completely dry areas of the desert. These growths often form a circle around the body of water and as they dry out they leave a ring of dried plants, these are by some seen as markings from gods. What they are interpreted as though depends on what is found, as one may see the death of plants as wrath, another may see it as a mark of life's natural flow.

Settlements & Inhabitants

Due to the extreme weather and environment there are no active settlements. Though that has not always been the case, and some scholars suggest great cities once stretched across the region. The few people you may see in this region is a selection of archaeologists, scholars, and travelers. Due to the desert parting the continent in half there are some who travel across it in an attempt to cut travel time, though they are either daring or well prepared and most likely both.

The Sheliad

Legends tell of a people technologically and magically superior to all other societies of the time. Though what is known today is shrouded in mystery as there are only a few recovered artifacts in good enough condition to be studied.

As understood by where artifacts and remnants have been found, these people were settled across the desert and mountains of Patle Diame. Though remnants have been found. The only settlements found have been scattered throughout the mountains to the east of the sheliad desert. Everything points towards the belief that there once were towns or cities within the desert but none have been found. Since the settlement of Patle Diame there have been expeditions into the Sheliad desert in an attempt to find these lost cities, but out of the few caravans which managed to return from these expeditions, few brought back information on what really happened.
