At dawn, roll 4d8 and save that number. This represents the pool of damage the cloak can absorb.
As a reaction when taking damage, the cloak can absorb damage up to the amount rolled at dawn. Reduce the pool by the number of damage absorbed this way. The cloak can continue absorbing damage until it has no more pool available.
