Crown Knights of Thrane

Law Enforcement

An ancient order dedicated to protecting Thrane’s royalty, the Crown Knights of Thrane have seen a tremendous loss of prestige and authority since the institution of the theocracy. Their orders and funding come from the Diet of Cardinals now, relegating them to protecting Silvercliff Castle and maintaining the occupation of Thaliost.

The Crown Knights of Thrane are amongst the oldest organizations in Thrane, founded by Thrane ir'Wynarn in the first century YK. Their duties are manifold and sometimes contradictory - In theory they formally answer to Queen Diani. In reality, they take directions from the Diet of Cardinals, as Queen Diani is not allowed to have actual authority over a military force. The effect is that the Crown Knights of Thrane are relegated to internal security - protecting Silvercliff Castle, the home of the Thranish crown, chief amongst them. The Crown Knights are led by Captain Malik Otherro, a loyal knight and paladin whose unrequited love for Queen Diani frequently conflicts with his deep faith.

The Crown Knights of Thrane were established before the Church of the Silver Flame existed and the order has no connection to the church. However, the knights themselves are largely followers of the Flame – as are most of the people of Thrane – and the order often acts in the service of the church. However, on paper, its first duty is to Queen Diani ir'Wynarn.

The Knights of Thrane, also called the Crown Knights, are an order of knights founded by Prince Thrane in the earliest days of the nation. The Knights of Thrane have always served the royal family, answering to the Regent of Thrane, and then to the Thranish royal family during and after the Last War.

When the Church of the Silver Flame was acclaimed as the government in 914 YK, the Knights of Thrane were ready to go to war on behalf of the royal family. However, Prince Daslin defused the situation by ceding to the Keeper of the Flame, recognizing that Thrane would not survive a civil war while the Last War raged on.

Today, the Knights of Thrane are essentially their own sub-order within the Knights Templar, specializing in heavy cavalry, though in theory they answer to Queen Diani ir'Wynarn. In practice, they answer to the Council of Flamekeep and put their loyalty to Thrane ahead of their loyalty to the royal family. The Knights of Thrane are led by Captain Malik Otherro (male human oathsworn templar, he/him).
