Hazel is generally considered to be the most promising young witch in the jarldom. Her skill at mundane healing already matches that of many seasoned witches, and her knowledge of diplomacy and protocol has ingratiated her to important people in King Hrothgar's household. She has been called on numerous times during the king's illness, and of late she has attended the king almost daily. Her willingness to attend to the lesser members of the household has also made her popular among the guards and servants.
Hazel once saved the daughter of Jarl Gaut (location C on the map) from a grave illness. That daughter now resides in the hall of Jarl Brynhild (location D on the map).
