The Grey Tower is a large stone tower that houses a multitude of governmental facilities for the city of Bucktuck City, functions as the headquarters for the Grey Wings, and holds the personal quarters of the lord of Atherdale, Anise Taranil. It is located in the central square of the Stand in Bucktuck City, and its loom, 11 story tower can be seen from across the city. Along with being a hub of activity in the city, the Grey Tower contains a large amount of information regarding the citizens of Atherdale, as well as historical documents.

History

The Grey Tower was built following the destruction of the old city offices in 971 IaC at the direction of the newly crowned lord of Atherdale, Lady Anise Taranil. The Tower was made moderately functional at the end of the year, but was not fully completed until 973. The stone of the tower was made from rock cut from the mines below Bucktuck City, and stacked by a large labor force commissioned with Lady Anise's personal funds.

Description

The exterior of the Grey Tower is made of thickly cut stone bricks. A wide first floor contains most of the activity of the tower and functions as its base, reinforced by the second floor. The third to eleventh floors extend skyward in an octagonal shape, shrinking in width as it rises.

The tower also connects to a large basement that contains vaults for the city, as well as quarters for the Grey Wings. It is rumored to connect to the subterranean levels of the city jail.

First Floor

The first floor of the tower is splits down the middle, with the Grey Wings occupying the left side, and various governmental offices and citizen services occupying the right half. Also contained in the right half are the provincial records, stocked with histories of prominent families and taxation records. Located at the back of the first floor is a long meting hall used by the current lord of the province during meetings with their advisors and with the citizenry. In the center of the floor is a large spiral staircase that leads up to the second floor.
