Errant Undead Hunters and Guardian Steward

Bone Talkers are responsible for dealing with errant undead and managing the undead guardians at temples and shrines.

Priests of Myrkul provide the proper funerary rites to the recently deceased to ensure that the dead remain so, and may travel on to Myrkul’s domain uninterrupted. They are renowned for being calm and reserved during an otherwise emotional moment in people’s lives.

When the dead do return as the undead, Bone Talkers seek to reintegrate them into their former lives where possible, or find them a new purpose in unlife, in the most extreme cases where the undead pose a danger to the living the priests of Myrkul dispose of these creatures. A newer development is that Bone Talkers are reporting the need to protect sentient undead, that have committed no crimes, from the living. This has pitted some Bone Talkers against the Church of Kelemvor in recent years.

Despite the seemingly benign services offered by the Church of the Bone Lord, it is widely whispered that some of Myrkul’s clergy have a darker purpose regarding the dead and the undead. This silent opinion is further reinforced by adventurers uncovering many dark plots often involving the faithful of Myrkul, (although the Church is quick to label those caught as renegades or heretics if pressed about their allegiance).

Bone Talkers face the task of bringing heretics in for interrogation and trial. If a Bone Talker does not return, a Doom Bringer is dispatched.
