For ten thousand years, this desert has been traditionally avoided by most sapient beings. Ever since a magical catastrophe altered the landscape and even the inherent properties of the area, it has been a wild and unpredictable region.
The majority of the sand in the Glassweird Desert has been fused together by an enormous blast of energy, creating a surreal, reflective landscape that can be difficult to navigate, and extremely dangerous if wandering exposed to the sunlight during the day.
Additionally, the magic responsible for fusing the sand together seems to have forever changed the way magic functions within the boundaries of the desert. While this makes it an inherently dangerous task to study magic in the region, it is also extremely beneficial, as one may learn secrets that the common mage might never discover.
Rumored to be home to a Wizards College for just this reason, some more adventurous magic users have braved the trip across the desert.
