Grappling Rules

Anyone can attempt to pin and restrain a creature when grappling them. They do an additional grapple check as described in the original grappler feat, if they have 13 strength or higher. Grappling feat has been replaced by this:

Improved Grappler
Prerequisite: Strength 13 or higher.

You’ve developed the skills necessary to hold your own in close-quarters grappling. You gain the following benefits:

  • You gain proficiency in the Athletics skill when used in a grapple. If you are already proficient in the skill, you add double your proficiency bonus to grapple checks you make with it.
  • You can use your action to pin a creature grappled by you by making another grapple check. Doing so requires an additional free hand. On a success, both you and the creature you are pinning are restrained, and you choose one of the following effects:

Chokehold: The pinned creature is unable to speak and begins to suffocate.
Arm pin: The pinned creature is unable to make use of their arms or other, similar appendages.

  • While pinning a creature in this manner, you are unable to take any action other than making unarmed strikes against the pinned creature.
