Expedition 43 - Dulo's Account

In our last expedition, we investigated the compound of the furred people. We were very careful to avoid detection, and simply scouted out the uninhabited sections. This time, however, we came in determined to delve into their living areas through the secret tunnel we located, and assault any groups we find. We also sought to recover a barrelful of the enchanted water in the garden, though we soon abandoned this goal.

After infiltrating the main building through the secret entrance, we heard sounds coming from a nearby room. We readied ourselves, then barged through the door, catching two dozen of the hairy ones by surprise. Given our advantageous position, I deemed it unnecessary to enchant the beast-men to sleep – a mistake that cost us. The warriors among us made quick work of the furred ones, which caused them to rout. Many escaped into a back room and began descending some stairs, no doubt into their horrid warrens, though we captured a hostage from among them. From the underground emerged several more of their brethren, most of which we were able to dispatch, though a few stragglers got away. With our cover blown, we quickly looted whatever we could find of value, and escaped with the hostage, which we plan to interrogate later.

There is another matter of note as well. At some point during our escape, we set fire to the beast-men’s barracks in hopes of slowing them down. By the time we returned to camp, we saw the billowing smoke rising from the compound. Our delaying tactic had turned into a blazing inferno, burning even the trees in the garden, though there was little we could do at that point. I only pray that any books and valuables there survived, and that we will suffer no ill fate for having desecrated holy land.
