Marchesa

The Land:

The Kingdom of Prentosias itself takes up a mostly coastal position on the continent of Estir, and its capital city, Marchesa is a harbor city. It is surrounded by beautiful beaches, while the city is formed on an outcropping of verdant land that snuggles up to the sky above.

The City:

This mostly human city is a successful military capital city of a kingdom that has been running successfully for centuries. It is a large and grand metropolis with its share of crime and classism, the kingdom was built upon dreams of once reclaiming the glory of the old Remian Empire. An empire that exercised oppressive military rule over the continent of Estir.

The nobles and council of the city live inland where they reside in comfort over the common folk who manage the export and import of goods for them.  The nobles all survive on inheritances from their ancestors and a continuous income of businesses that their families have had stakes in since their conception. They fund most operations in the city and require any upstarts to go through them. This is a commonly discussed topic amongst the politics of the city and may see some change in the foreseeable future due to the recent formation of a council in the kingdom.

The People:

The people of Marchesa are a grouchy bunch, living their day-to-day lives working for the nobles with little to no hope of ever-rising in the community. Even large business owners owe a debt to the nobles for the land they work on and everyone in the city is beginning to become fed-up with the overhanging tang of futility that permeates daily life in the city. Despite their resentment of the newly instilled council, if the council can truly change the rights afforded to citizens, perhaps they stand a chance of gaining a semblance of support amongst the commoners.

The Government:

Until recently, the government of Prentosias, and subsequently Marchesa, was a militant king who led the country in the war against the kingdoms to the north. While the northern kingdoms were winning, they came to Marchesa only to find the royal family entirely assassinated and a council had formed quickly after. This council formed peaceful negotiations with the kingdoms to the north and quickly ended the war. This council has continued their rule to this day, to the chagrin of many citizens. This is the Council of the Star.

The Council of the Star: Gaspar Muno, Frasco Pinero, Raina Goldjaw, Mercedes Zea, Estevon Perron, Rosalinda Madron, and Vincente Vilchez. Each of them collaborating on the advancement of the country, though Mercedes Zea has risen among them as the informal leader of the council.

Being a kingdom that was once the helm of all military activity in the area, they are still left with a sizable and formidable army and an unparalleled navy.

Criminals:

Marchesa is home to a wealth of criminals who take advantage of the weaker lower class and the vain higher class. Being a criminal in this city pays well as long as you survive, and with all the competition, you probably won’t. The Void Community oversees all criminal activity in the city and anyone who gets in their way is quick to teach those around them why you don’t mess with the Void Community. This lesson is taught swiftly and covertly, you simply disappear. No one ever hears from you again and everything you own either disappears and finds itself onto the black market at some point, or simply is never seen again.

Trade:

While Marchesa itself has only one notable export and that is the local sea life that, no matter the amount of overfishing, seems to thrive and thrive heartily. They are known for their export of Megatuna, a large variety of the common tuna fish. However, the city itself mostly spends time importing goods that the nobles have fancy for. One month you’ll see a large import of clockwork items as the nobles are all the rage about them and a few months later something else will catch their ire.
