Oceanyka, still sometimes known post-independence as Australia, is a confederation of tribes, villages, towns and city-states located in the continent of Oceania. It is an anarchic land filled with treasure, danger, cruelty and death. Outside of the palisades of villages, the stone walls of towns, the sniper towers of cities and the bunkers of colonial outposts anarchy reigns, and he with the biggest gun wins. Oceanyka autonomously developed two different civilisations which had been at war with each other for millennia before the arrival of foreign settlers; the Aboriginals and the Ferozen. In their last great war, they destroyed each other, leaving the continent ripe for British colonisation. This state of affairs lasted for almost a century, greatly enriching the Empire, but Oceanyka reached independence through bloody revolution in the late 19th century, as a confederation between all peoples within it. Originally aligned with the West, a left-wing revolution in the capital has brought it closer to the Moscow Pact, under the leadership of President Alan Redfort.

1886 was an eventful year for the British. Decades of alliances, pacts and wars culminated in a grand coordinated rebellion against British colonialism. The British were only able to evacuate the most important governors and aristocrats, while the Army was overrun. Seeing it pointless to try and reestablish rule, Britain seceded rule of the island to the Cestlep-based headquarters of the rebellion: the Oceanykan Council. With this was born the Oceanykan Federation, commonly known as the "Old Republic". The parliament-like organisation, featuring representation by the major groups of the nation, had de jure rule over the country. Despite an extremely weak constitution the Federation managed to coordinate several of its members to participate in development projects. This early era of the Old Republic is commonly known as the Oceanykan Golden Era. The country adopted many modern technologies such as industrial production, railroads and machineguns. Wars were plentiful but not nearly as much as before. The Council even sent its army to fight in the Weltkrieg, with mixed results. But a particular era of strife directly following the end of hostilities corrupted and weakened the Council. By the time all radical rebellions of the second Weltkrieg were exterminated, the Council was not the group of idealistic statesmen and industrialists it was before.

The greatest crisis that Oceanyka's new republican government faced was the Oceanykan Civil War, in which it found itself victorious. However, the country remained in a state of political, social and economic decay, and thus the end of said civil conflict marks the beginning of the Late Republican Age.

The Type 98 gunto (Japanese for "military sword") is an officer's sword. Unlike its contemporaries, Japanese forces frequently used their swords in combat when employing "banzai" assault tactics. Many made their way to Oceanyka after WW2.

There was an enormous demand for well-trained junior officers during the Revolutionary Age, for which a number of officer schools were established throughout the western realms of Oceanyka. Men of this socio-military class were almost always subservient to their feudal overlords or elected officials, though numerous coups and revolutions spearheaded by the bannerets are known of. They filled the role of sergeants, lieutenants and captains, as the landed nobility and bourgeoise were normally commanders of greater units, though most staff officers were also of this class. Regardless, their distinguishing characteristic was that most bannerets were professional soldiers, compared to the often haphazardly levied enlisted troops and the upper-class senior officers whose preoccupations were often tied to their own interests. Military families, who had at this point been firmly established, now held an enormous power over local politics and governance, for which Aboriginal regional governments were often quasi-juntas. As with their Ferozen equivalents, most people belonging to this socio-miltiary class were slaughtered during and after the Revolutionary Wars and the societal collapse which followed. However, stubborn as always, military families continued training their children in the art of war, hoping to prove themselves in the battlefield one day. That opportunity came with the Second Boer War, and the subsequent creation of the Aboriginal Bannerets in Contemporary Oceanyka.

On July 28th, Austro-Hungarian forces began a general invasion of Serbia. Having extensively planned for this operation previously, with most officers having been taught Simple Danubian, and with a great stockpile of prepared supplies, it was a decisive victory. By the end of September, the country had been fully occupied, and only irregulars continued the fight for Serbia. Austro-Hungarian armies linked up with those of Bulgaria and the Ottomans, beginning a joint invasion of Greece, to dislodge Entente ships in the region and threaten Egypt. The Romanians, which had entered the war on the get-go, proved far more resistance with Russian reinforcements, but were eventually pushed back. By November of 1915, the Balkans were firmly in control of the Central Powers.

Somewhat further to the north, the Italians managed to push the French in the extremely bloody Battle of the Alps, though its colonial holdings were lost. Furthermore, on the border between the Ottoman levant and the British colony of Egypt, combat began to unfold.

The Object 172U is a prototype Soviet MBT that would later be adopted as the fearsome T-72, workhorse of the Soviet Army in the late 20th century. It is in essence a heavily modified version of the T-64A, though fit with a supercharged version of the venerable Kharkiv Model V-2 engine which is much easier to mass-produce than the state-of-the-art Malyshev 5TDF. All technological advancements added to the T-64A are base features of this tank, though the Object 172U has replaced its coincidence rangefinder with a new laser rangefinder, has mounts for explosive reactive armour and a bleeding-edge electronic fire control system (In OTL these features would only appear until the 1979 T-72A). According to top-secret reports by NATO's SOHCOM, Object 172Us have been spotted operating in Oceanyka alongside operatives of the mysterious KGB Alpha Group.
