Reunions

Session 83
2022-12-22

The group continues the search for an hour in the catacomb to find these sacred texts that the inscription, signed by a Jaros, speaks of but finds nothing. Irdien takes the time to write a copy of the text. Finally, there's a loud noise as Arcus knocks over the neatly stacked pile of bones on the altar. On a closer inspection, they noticed that the femurs were etched with instructions in an outdated language. Nevertheless, the group can make out that the text is of a ritual to help sinners repent för their sins. It's called a "Ritual of penance" and brings the subject back into Morena's light. Not wanting to spend more time in the damp cold temple, Morbrant respectfully wraps up the bones to take with us so that the knowledge doesn't fall into the wrong hands. He seems a little upset about Morena's early ties to Necromancy. Sirona tries explaining that there's a difference between what Morena did and what the Lich King does.
The group heads back into the portal, and Irdien carries them safely back to Fort Prav. They are met by a young dwarven man who introduces himself as Siv Morkhilu. He's a rune smith that says he was meant to give us the means to travel back to Tarkett but that we left in such a hurry that he never managed to provide it. Sirona hands it over to Rose, asking if he knows how to use it. Rose starts explaining how this could go wrong while Morbrant makes a silent prayer and bids farewell to his friends at the camp before joining the group's departure. When he tells them that the quartermaster has left the encampment after starting to hear voices, Rose gets nervous and starts questioning further. The skull of his grandmother may have corrupted the poor fellow, and Rose tells the soldiers that they should fetch him back before he manages to harm someone. Morbrant is mortified that Rose would casually leave such a dangerous item behind and yells at him, earning another fistful of the wizard's familiar poo flung in his direction. With that, Rose activates the teleportation rune, and the group returns to the school grounds.
The school surgeon is already waiting for them, saying that he noticed Ertherins improvement several hours ago but that they haven't woken him up yet. If they want, they could all go and see him now. Sirona says she will remain behind as she thinks she shouldn't be present when Ertherin wakes up. The rest of the group head back to Nicodemu's lab.
The surgeon injects Ertherin with something to wake him up, and the drow slowly regains consciousness. Irdien hugs him, and her brother exclaims in horror over seeing that she has become a Monster hunter graduate before him. There's some reassurance that his heroic stunt might be rewarded similarly by the grand master once he's fully recovered, although Irdien points out that the act was mostly stupid as he could have died or turned into a Ghoul. Ertherin takes in the group around him, realises that L is the only one he doesn't know, and asks about her strange appearance. Irdien explains that she is a friend that helped save his life, and then she asks why he left home in the first place. Ertherin explains that he had been hired for a gig that ended poorly and that it was the only way to make sure that they didn't learn about his connection to the rest of the family, as he didn't want them to get in trouble for his mistake. He didn't want to lead them home, so the safest solution was to cut all ties abruptly, something he hadn't done with ease. The surgeon points out that Ertherin needs more rest, and the group leaves him alone. Outside the laboratory, Irdien thanks the group for their indispensable help in saving her brother.
Meanwhile, Sirona is heading towards Pearl's room to see if she can talk with her but is intercepted by Thounda, the school steward. He tells her that a currier has arrived with letters for her and that he insists on meeting her before he leaves. Sirona gets excited over the letters, hoping they are a response from the one she left behind with the high priest in Eldolan to try and send home. Thounda adds that as he knows she's been hunted in the past, she can either wait for the group to join her or go alone, knowing that the school is very safe. Sirona decides to meet the currier alone and heads to the waiting room. As she enters, there is a pile of letters on a table, presumingly responses from all the lords Adrian contacted with search requests to find the farm. There is a young human male with reddish hair waiting inside. As he looks at her, he holds an old white feather that has started showing a golden tint. She recognises him as Zander, her one-year-younger brother who constantly quarrelled with her growing up. He doesn't look like a troublemaker any more in his fancy imperial postal uniform.
