After a horrific boating accident that ended in his parents' deaths when he was four, Albaerlus Gudelmar V and his two sisters were raised in the Dancing Dolphins House by their distant cousin, Ingutrude Gudelmar. Now an adult, he is one of the three potential heirs to the most extravagant "open house" in the city. Albaerlus is most like his distant relatives Quaerthara Gudelmar and Abaerlus Gudelmar, his namesake. He wishes to create a better and happier Amn for all, opposing slavery and the iron fist of The Council that runs the nation of Amn. He would be Ingutrude's first choice for taking over the family estate, but he has some adventurous and risky business ideas, namely investing in lower class businesses, redistributing tax wealth to the poor, and paying for labor. These ideas worry Ingutrude as to Albaerlus V's ability to make sound financial decisions and make her hesitant to hand the Dancing Dolphins House over to him.
