Oceanyka, still sometimes known post-independence as Australia, is a confederation of tribes, villages, towns and city-states located in the continent of Oceania. It is an anarchic land filled with treasure, danger, cruelty and death. Outside of the palisades of villages, the stone walls of towns, the sniper towers of cities and the bunkers of colonial outposts anarchy reigns, and he with the biggest gun wins. Oceanyka autonomously developed two different civilisations which had been at war with each other for millennia before the arrival of foreign settlers; the Aboriginals and the Ferozen. In their last great war, they destroyed each other, leaving the continent ripe for British colonisation. This state of affairs lasted for almost a century, greatly enriching the Empire, but Oceanyka reached independence through bloody revolution in the late 19th century, as a confederation between all peoples within it. Originally aligned with the West, a left-wing revolution in the capital has brought it closer to the Moscow Pact, under the leadership of President Alan Redfort.

On July 28th, Austro-Hungarian forces began a general invasion of Serbia. Having extensively planned for this operation previously, with most officers having been taught Simple Danubian, and with a great stockpile of prepared supplies, it was a decisive victory. By the end of September, the country had been fully occupied, and only irregulars continued the fight for Serbia. Austro-Hungarian armies linked up with those of Bulgaria and the Ottomans, beginning a joint invasion of Greece, to dislodge Entente ships in the region and threaten Egypt. The Romanians, which had entered the war on the get-go, proved far more resistance with Russian reinforcements, but were eventually pushed back. By November of 1915, the Balkans were firmly in control of the Central Powers.

Somewhat further to the north, the Italians managed to push the French in the extremely bloody Battle of the Alps, though its colonial holdings were lost. Furthermore, on the border between the Ottoman levant and the British colony of Egypt, combat began to unfold.

The Mousqueton Modele 1916 "Berthier" is a French bolt-action rifle designed by Emile Berthier, chambered in 8x50mmR Lebel which feeds from a 5-round fixed magazine. It was renowned for its compact size and reliability in the trenches of the Western Front. Its lightweight and manoeuvrable design made it well-suited for cavalry units and other mobile troops. The Berthier series of rifles had not seen major upgrades since the 1890s, but this new presentation gave French assault troops something new to work with, more suited to their kind of work. Although considered obsolete in Oceanyka due to the proliferation of pistols, SMGs and assault rifles, a few mad men still run Berthier carbines to clear trenches and sweep rooms.

The logging industry is by far controlled by small cooperatives, companies and family businesses. Gunns, however, has managed to make a whole business from it. They cut down trees all around the country for construction and manufacture. Most importantly, they are almost completely clean according to the official and unofficial records. Therefore their timber has open access to the international market, especially to the western world.

From 1788 to 1818, Australia was treated by the British Empire as a penal colony, though millions of free settlers also arrived (see: First Great Wave). As the Crown's sovereignty over the continent was formalised, the true vastness of its material wealth was brought out from the shadows. Many colonial companies were set up, both as private and government institutions, but one stood out amongst them: the Van Diemen's Land Company, which successfully tamed large portions of Tasmania with novel land clearance methods and an organised militia system.

As the years passed, more and more British settlements began springing up, especially across the coasts. However, there was also a significant amount of inland colonisation, seeking to exploit Australia's mineral resources and using its grasslands for the raising of woolly animals such as the Eta. This, alongside British control of India, allowed this small island nation to gain unmatched industrial power throughout the entirety of the 19th century. Far from peaceful, this era featured an endless series of conflicts on the borders of British spheres of influence, known as the Frontier Wars. Each of Oceanyka's constituent colonies had their own standing armies, which were used to quell down native uprisings and incursions from the Outback.

Notably enough, the British Empire did not possess enough power to actually occupy all of Oceanyka early in the 19th century, so a number of foreign colonies were set up with authorisation from Queen Victoria; these were used as a bargaining chip in the Empire's conflicts. For example, following the First Opium War, the Qing were allowed to set up a thriving Chinese colony in northern Australia as a way to appease Beijing, though these settlements were only allowed to trade with the government of whichever of the Australian colonies they belonged to.

By the end of this age, Australia was divided into the following colonies of the British Empire:

  • New South Wales
  • Victoria
  • Queensland
  • Tasmania
  • West Australia
  • South Australia
  • North Australia

After the Eureka Rebellion, British authorities severely cracked down on the daily lives of Oceanykans in an attempt to create an orderly society. Growing militarisation and resentment are key characteristics of the Late Colonial Age which followed it.

An alcoholic beverage fermented from Argelben, common around the country, but most popular in the eastern Ferozen societies. Tastes like a really strong vodka, though with a very earthy aftertaste. Putrizk is capable of slowing down a person's metabolism, reducing body temperature, which makes it a useful tool for travelling across the searing Oceanykan Outback. However, it also tends to make its consumers moody and even aggressive, producing countless bar fights across the centuries.

The Illawarra is a fairly uncommon reddish tree that appears most frequently in the areas stuck between Oceanyka's temperate coasts and its hellish outback. It is a popular decoration tree due to its colour and the sweet, strong aroma of its flowers, which may also also be harvested to manufacture perfumes or artificial flavours. The most important aspect of the Illawarra is its root extract, which in small doses nullifies many common Oceanykan poisons.
