Odwulf Goldbreeze

This character is dead.
The Grey Saint; the Martyr; He of the Saffron Robe
NPC

Saint Odwulf was the Hierophant of the Halflings of the White Banner, who then went on to form the Halflings of the Grey, in an attempt to unite his warring people. He operated from the Cathedral of Grey Grace, before he was killed by Trakan Sparrowtuft, his nephew Okoth Goldbreeze, and Galfast Hamhead.

Odwulf was an Aasimar Cleric of the Radiance, the deity of the White Banners; and a Summoner, able to call forth an Archon. He anointed and officiated the marriage between the Unknown Lovers, a Tiefling man of the Black Banners and an Aasimar woman of the White, and used them as an example and symbol of his spiritual revolution. Alas, they were also slain by Trakan, Galfast and Okoth, and the Grey revolution failed, leading to a civil war. He was martyred, and pronounced a Saint during this conflict.

He had darker, wrinkled skin, and wore golden (which sometimes shifted to silver or grey), brown, and reddish garments, and religious regalia. He had a long grey beard, and a glowing halo.

Odwulf's Celestial Eidolon; his wings were made of stained glass.

In the Cathedral of Grey Grace, when it was temporarily restored by Bethany Claie, Lanliss Ashscribe and the Ashen Hawk, Odwulf was depicted within a stained glass window, with his Archon standing behind him, and with congregation around and below him. The name of this artwork, written in Celestial, Infernal and Halfling, was "The Martyrdom of St. Odwulf".

In the Chapel discovered earlier during Take Me to Church, the party found a relic. It had many names in many ages, some proper, some descriptive. Sereg Nie. Lacrima Sanguinis. Spark of Vitality, Scarlet Tear, Wheel of the Archon. It is positively ancient, and was passed down from one keeper to the next, from the Halflings and down to the members of the Coalition and its Order of the Aureate Roar. The red gem within this relic is a drop of blessed blood of St. Odwulf. It is currently in possession of Lanliss Ashscribe, as a Life Relic.

A short tale is included - an esteemed patriarch, a wise leader, Celestials on his side and Celestials in his blood, who "walked the line" and "sought to unite". Ultimately, he was cut down for his gloriously noble efforts, but his blessed blood was miraculously preserved in the form of gemstones, which were then incorporated into a number of religious relics. The pendant is one of them.

Deep Lore Notes

Cathedral of Grey Grace

- Odwulf was Tainted by the Fabulist, and as a Storykin, he now resides within the mind of Bethany Claie, together with Mirage.

- The Fabulist influenced Odwulf in subtle ways, taking on the guise of the Radiance when needed.

- Odwulf was basically the "pope" of the White Banners, or at least a very high-ranking bishop. He was trying to unite the Halflings under one centrist banner, to bring an end to their constant struggles. His mission failed when he was killed.
