Weanut

Rarity

Common

Description

A legume with dark red textured seedpods and delicate white flowers in the spring.

Interactions

In combination with Truth's Hand and most any sleep agent, consumption of the leaf lulls the user into a cooperative, suggestible state. Some persons are more able to resist unwanted suggestions than others, but most report a dazed feeling too strong to easily think for themselves. The effect waxes and wanes but remains at its strongest for about half an hour.

Dangers

Consumption of the flower appears to deteriorate one's ability to fend off infection and illness.

Medicinal Uses

A root tincture can be taken regularly to mitigate the effects and decrease the potential lethality of alcohol withdrawal. Appears to have some weak effect for other types of withdrawal, but such use is uncommon.

Culinary Uses

The nut is edible and used for a snack as much as in recipes. Locally, frequently served boiled and heavily salted.

Practical Uses

Oil extracted from the nut can be directly applied to desired areas for more efficient shaving.

Other Uses

Due to its sturdy and flexible stems, favored as a component in flower crowns and similar arrangements.

Past

Lucya was born in Mossgrove, a small circle in the southern Havens well known for its high-quality lumber. She had an exhausting but uneventful childhood, learning how to chop down trees and take care of the family farm at a young age. Both of her parents, Duncan and Ada, are alive, and she has two younger brothers, Brajan and Aleksy-- they have their disagreements, but all get along pretty well, er, most of the time. Her grandfather, a mighty adventurer named Oskar, passed away when she was young, but she has very fond memories of him, and the Heirloom Axe she wields today is a gift from him.

Aside from her family, the person she was closest to as a child was Brynn, the neighbor's feisty kid who loved wrestling with her. One day in his teen years, though, something... changed in him, and a few weeks later he left his family for the mountains. Lucya doesn't know much about what happened, except that he swore a vow of iron.

More and more people have moved into Mossgrove over the years, and her family's status as the founders of the circle has grown more tenuous. Concerned for Lucya's future and social standing, her well-meaning but overbearing parents arranged a marriage for her to the blacksmith's son, Togan. He's a lovely guy, but something felt wrong about the whole situation in a way she couldn't articulate without sounding like she'd just got cold feet... And she knew, deep down, that she felt the same call to adventure as her grandfather and her long-lost friend. After peaceably breaking things off with her fiance, she swore an iron vow to find Brynn and ran away from home.

Unsure of how to even begin planning such a long journey, she sought out a family friend in Lostmoor. There she met Jagal, and an unlikely travelling arrangement was born.

Present

Lucya is a pleasant girl, if a bit naive, given that she's never really left her village before. Not that she doesn't know how to survive on the road; quite the opposite, as she's spent many a night foraging in the woods or hunting dangerous animals that threaten her farm. But she's got some ideas about the way things should work, and the Ironlands will undoubtedly subvert her expectations in unpleasant ways.

Her manners are a bit rustic, and she may err on the side of being too direct or blunt, but as her grampa always said, a big smile and a little kindness can get you a long way. Forgives easily, but does not forget. A very affectionate person, both physically and emotionally, though she seems to express no interest in romance or sex. She cherishes her family and friends, but feels called to a life of adventure, danger, and helping the less fortunate.

It would be easy to dismiss her as a simple farmgirl on first impression, but she's more serious and pragmatic than she appears. She's well aware that her vow to find Brynn is absurd and likely impossible-- she'll do her best to follow through, but its purpose was a socially acceptable excuse for leaving home that wouldn't dishonor her family. Confident about the things she knows she's good at, but not afraid to ask for help, either. Though she prefers non-violent solutions, her instinct is to fight rather than flee, and she has no qualms about using her axe to defend herself if left with no other choice. May have some lessons to learn about trusting strangers and surveying situations carefully, but her determination is unparalleled, and she'll never give up on a friend.

Has a knack for... creative solutions to travelling logistics. A little gullible, and especially struggles to pick up on sarcasm and passive-aggressiveness (though sometimes she does recognize it and simply chooses to ignore it.) Loves singing, is pretty good at it. Her specialty is rhubarb pie, but she enjoys experimenting with whatever foods she can forage, and dutifully keeps an array of spices and soup stock materials for the purpose.

Likes

Seeing new sights, foraging, fiber arts, singing, tests of strength, pies

Dislikes

Feeling trapped, wasting supplies, abuse of power, bitter drinks, squirrels, pranks

Stat Breakdown

Edge [1]

Terrible at archery, not very fast in general. If given the option, she prefers to take her time and go the long way around than put herself in a situation where she has to react quickly.

Heart [2]

Not the most gentle or sensitive person, but a sweet pea nonetheless. Disarming disney-princess-esque manner. Kind and generous to strangers, very open emotionally to her friends, and always tries to give people the benefit of the doubt. Doesn't have a sarcastic bone in her body.

Iron [3]

Built like a brick house, as is tradition for Amelia OCs. Years of experience chopping down trees and splitting logs with her trusty axe, and willing to apply these techniques in self-defense if necessary. Incredible physical endurance. Extremely hard to knock her off-balance without some serious trickery (such as a trapdoor leading to a murder basement.)

Shadow [1]

Exactly as stealthy as you'd imagine a six-foot lumberjack in a brightly-colored dress to be. A wee bit more skilled in social deceptiveness, but it's less that it comes naturally to her and more that people tend to grossly underestimate her cunning.

Wits [2]

Not nearly as ditzy as she seems at first. Takes a lateral thinking approach to problem-solving, and has a knack for improvising with limited equipment. Solid knowledge of survival skills and hunting, though mostly through traps rather than sharpshooting. Reads at a high school level, but will probably get lost trying to parse magical tomes.

A small circle in the eastern bluffs of the Havens ruled by the ritual of Drawing the Circle. Disputes over trade, justice, and all manner of things is determined by ritualized combat, and the circle is led by anyone who can overcome the current leader in a fair duel. Granted, there's a bit of deference to elders as well, and there aren't necessarily a lot of people enforcing any leader's rule, but surely personal honor is enforcement enough...

The traditional coming-of-age ritual looks concerningly similar to simply sending out a band of young raiders, but they're honorable, too, so it's fine.
