Jaela Daran is an eleven-year-old human girl who serves as the spiritual leader of the Church of the Silver Flame. She lives in the Cathedral of the Silver Flame in Flamekeep, and she is one of the most powerful clerics on Eberron when she’s in the proximity of the pillar of flame in Flamekeep. Outside of the city, however, she is merely an exceptionally talented 11-year-old cleric.
Jaela is a modest and meek young girl, notably so for someone who controls a nation. She’s personable and friendly, and anyone fortunate enough to have access to the Cathedral might run into Jaela walking barefoot in the marble halls, murmuring quietly to herself, or playing fetch with Skaravojen. She has dark skin, black hair with a streak of white through it, and is usually dressed in simple grey robes, despite having the resources to wear more ostentatious clothing.
Jaela was born during 987 YK, the daughter of a Flamekeep craftsman. At the age of four she had the apparent ability to predict catastrophes through dreams, leading her concerned father to contact Speaker Hagaci. She was brought before the Silver Flame, which warned Jaela of a secret Cult of the Dragon Below operating within the walls of Flamekeep.
After the existence of the cult was confirmed and dealt with, Jaela's connection with the Flame was confirmed. Following these events, Keeper Lavira Tagor stepped down as Keeper and the Council of Flamekeep dutifully appointed Jaela, now 6 years old, as the new Keeper of the Flame in 993 YK.
War remains on the mind of Thrane’s government. To Jaela's advisors, the current peace presents a chance to recuperate from losses and prepare for future conflict. However, Jaela believes that war is a futile endeavor. She believes that the Flame is saddened by the Last War and the continuing tensions between the Thronehold nations.
Jaela’s age and inexperience work against her in this issue, and she has had to learn to negotiate her cause carefully with the Speakers. Many of the Speakers are still concerned with the possibility of war, and while Thrane remains a theocracy the church has a responsibility to ensure the safety and prosperity of its people above all others.
