Session 04: The Apothecary

Session

Continued from Session 03: The Dark Horse Den.

Constable Amos Crow is doing paperwork, so Meriel, Zarin, and Tor'in go down to the morgue to talk to Keeper Sendara Thoniel about Kappa Adolus. Using some of her divine magic, she showed the group his damaged organs, and pointed out that the cause was a mushroom known as Arrow's Point: a narrow, slate gray mushroom commonly used as a purgative.  However, in Kappa's instance, it appeared as if an entire barge full of the mushroom was used to have the effect it did.  Sendara recommended to Tor'in that they should talk to an apothecarist named Amaiur Eillarin the Rattlestone neighborhood.

The group made their way north through the city to Rattlestone.  Just before reaching the bridge over River Aniene, they noticed that they were being followed by members of Hammerfall.  Fortunately, the thugs from Hammerfall went in a different direction.  It was decided that Tor'in should lead the way through Rattlestone, as his elven nature would be a little more welcome.  He was somewhat familiar with the area, and directed his companions to visit a nearby tea house while he would go in alone to talk to the Amaiur.  At the tea house, the humans did not make complete fools of themselves.  Tor'in and Amaiur talked about the Arrow's Point mushrooms at first, and Amaiur did say he had some in stock.  When Tor'in mentioned the magical nature of the poisoning, Amaiur became apprehensive.  With an unusually gentle conversational prod, Tor'in learned about Amaiur's daughter Sana. Sana has fallen in with The Solari, mostly using medical supplies at Giving Hands in Oldkeep.  Three weeks ago, she told her father that she had a divine gift.  She was able to make the poultices, potions, and other remedies more effective.  She was glad to be happy to help more people, but Amaiur said the had not seen her for the last few days.

Tor'in collected his human companions, and after filling them in on what he learned, they made their way.  They were once again being followed by Hammerfall, and this time, it was clear that the thieves were tailing them.  Tor'in decided against subtlety, and approached them head on.  A brief fight ensued.  One Hammerfall member chewed something unknown and went into a berserker rage, but Tor'in's finesse made short work of him.  Another Hammerfall was burned to death by Zarin's arcane magics, and the rest fled after Amos and Meriel teamed up against the last one standing. The group suffered only bumps and bruises, and after patching up Tor'in's opponent, they took him to the nearest Seat of Law.  They interrogate him there, and learn his name is Cai and that Amaiur's apothecary was being watched by Hammerfall.  He takes orders from a man named Oswin, but didn't know the specifics of why. He just does what says Oswin says, because Oswin is the man that gives him Bane.  Deciding not to waste any more time, Cai is left with the Vigilants there in case more questions arise.

The next move is planned.  The group decided to rescue Sana from the Solari.  Since Kennick has seen Tor'in and Amos before, Zarin and Meriel will approach him while Amos and Tor'in look around for Sana.
