Festivals & Holidays of Tarsahk
Waukeentide (1st to 10th of Tarsahk)
Overview
Civic. High Society. Waukeen, Goddess of Trade.
Hot on the heels of @JournalEntry[SxMjCBesMSw49eS7]{Fleetswake}, this ten-day festival has long gathered a number of older holidays under one name, stretching those celebrations and rituals into a holiday season in homage to Waukeen, the goddess of wealth and trade.
All Coins Day (1st of Tarsahk)
Waukeen, Goddess of Trade
The first night of the festival, usually only really celebrated by merchants and those direct worshippers of Waukeen, by holding massive sales in their shops and donating all of those coins in Waukeen's name to charities and to promising journeymen looking to start their own businesses.
Caravance (2nd of Tarsahk)
Civic
This gift-giving holiday commemorates the traditional arrival of the first caravans of the season into the city. Many parents hide gifts for their offspring in their homes, telling the children that they were left by Old Carvas – a mythical peddler who arrived with the first caravan to reach Waterdeep, his wagon loaded down with toys for children to enjoy.
Goldenight (5th of Tarsahk)
Civic. Waukeen, Goddess of Trade
This festival celebrates coin and gold, with many businesses staying open all night, offering midnight sales and other promotions. Some celebrants and customers decorate themselves with gold dust and wear coins as jewelry.
Leiruin (8th of Tarsahk)
Waukeen, Goddess of Trade
In times long past, Waukeen caught Leira, the goddess of illusions and deception, attempting to cheat her in a deal, and buried her under a mountain of molten gold as punishment.
A commemoration of that event, Leiruin is the day for guild members to pay their annual dues, for guildmasters to meet with the Lords of Waterdeep and renew their charters for another year, and for the Lords to bring to light any wrongdoing done in commerce. In the evening, the Leiruin Feasts are held, in which gold coins (and other golden treasures) are baked into random items of food to be won by those who are lucky enough to receive them.
Day of Spheres (10th of Tarsahk)
High Society
Glass spheres filled with gems and gold collected during Highcoin are paraded around the city. They are then loaded into catapult-like contraptions to be lobbed into the air to shatter and spill their contents over the city for the general populace.
In high society, the final day of Waukeentide is celebrated with grand parties and as a result, the streets of North and Sea Wards are filled with small clutches of traveling party-goers in their festival finery.
The Vernal Trousseau Festival (23rd of Tarsahk)
High Society.
A festival focused on the newest fashions for spring and summer, cuminating in exhibitions of the garment work of the finest artists of the Most Excellent Order of Weavers & Dyers, the Order of Master Tailors, Glovers & Mercers, and the Solemn Order of Recognized Furriers & Woolmen. Noble patrons often organize shows to highlight the work of one given tailors or group thereof, both to show off the nobles' good taste and possibly garner additional regard for that artist's work.
