Session 97: A Gift for Egland's Best

Player Journal

We docked in Dubkov, giving the crew some long long overdue shore leave and giving us time to settle in to the new base of operations.

Debating among ourselves we decided to go ahead and get the rather coercive request for us to give up the Fragment of Creation (Octahedral Crystallizer) out of the way. A hired crew was sent to us to retrieve the fragment, and understandably enough we made doubly sure they were here to do what they said they were here to do. They seemed to just be here to do a job and had little interest in the fragment outside of being the thing they were paid to retrieve. After some negotiation we were allowed to escort the fragment to its destination, rather than leave it in their hands. We were loaded into drawn carts, and taken far far northward, even passing by the fork to my hometown and passing into Wodford before turning westward into the wilderness. It'd been quite some time, but i had an inkling of where we were headed and i ended up being correct.

Some discussions were had about the rather strange way the borders were drawn in the area; Udrodzid was once the fourth nation on the continent, but after the Collapse of Udrodzid its land was divided up by Kapsia and Serval in an attempt to prevent the other from gaining some sort of military advantage over the other.

After carting deep into the wilderness we came upon one of the Foundation's most guarded locations: Sanctum Omega. Security was exhausting as usual, and we found ourselves guests of this place for however long it takes for them to be satisfied I suppose. I volunteered to aid in the research, as despite my current...situation of employment I am still one of the Foundation's foremost experts on magical items. It didn't take long for the captain to discover that this is where the handlers operate out of. I'm actually surprised he wasn't greeted with a slap to the face considering the stress he can put them through, ignoring protocol and all.

We've been treated well, but there seemed to be a general sense of... distrust between foundation employees operating here and members of Fortune's Vanguard; no outward hostility, just you could sense it in the air. We tried to schedule meeting with Helen. I think the party wanted and especially the captain wanted to figure out just what happened at the The Feast of Egland's Best. I'd heard it was a shitshow; I was invited due to my work, but didn't attend, due to my work. Right away i could tell things weren't right. Pleasantries were exchanged and throughout the discussion Helen's disposition could charitably be described as actively hostile. After the disaster of the feast and the group that would become Fortune's Vanguard disappeared into the sea, Helen was left to pick up the pieces. She had been blamed.

After more slinging of venom and barbs in both directions and some rather heated accusations involving the murder of regents an 'agreement' was reached. The captain, in his goodwill, agreed to wear one of the pendants. She explained it was simply meant to slightly increase peoples' dispositions towards the foundation, make them more friendly to it, open to negotiation and such. But, as the captain donned it, and the magic took hold, she revealed her hand: and ordered the captain to confess; to explain why he killed Edval Eg.
